An Environmental Issue in Mongolia
Mongolia has a big environmental problem: desertification. This means that its land is turning into desert, with over 70% of the country affected. It happens because of overgrazing, deforestation, and climate change. The Gobi Desert is growing larger, and as the grasslands disappear, animals have less space to graze. This affects the many nomadic herders who rely on the land for their animals. Dust storms have become more common, and the problem even spreads to nearby countries like China. Desertification is harming both the environment and people's way of life.
What is the Government Doing to Save its Environment
To fight desertification, the Mongolian government has started several projects. One important project is the "Green Belt," where millions of trees are being planted to stop the Gobi Desert from growing. The government is also teaching farmers how to take better care of the land to stop overgrazing. Mongolia is working with other countries and the United Nations to get help and money for planting more trees and improving water use. These actions are helping to protect Mongolia’s environment and the people who depend on it.
