Brief Explanation
The Bending & EDM Lab is designed to provide hands-on training and practical experience in various metal forming and machining processes. It focuses on the use of Electrical Discharge Machines (EDM), NC (Numerical Control) bending machines, and wire EDM machines to shape and machine metal components with high precision. This lab aims to develop students’ skills in using these machines to fabricate parts, perform detailed machining tasks, and understand the principles behind each process.
Objectives
Skill Development: To enable students to operate Electrical Discharge Machines, NC bending machines, and wire EDM machines, learning the techniques and capabilities of each machine.
Understanding Metal Forming: To understand the principles of metal bending and machining processes, including the setup and operation of NC bending machines and wire EDM machines.
Precision Machining: To train individuals in producing high-precision components, focusing on quality control and accuracy in machining processes.
Problem-Solving: To develop problem-solving skills by addressing common challenges in metal bending and machining, ensuring the ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues effectively.
Lab Materials
The Bending & EDM Lab is equipped with a variety of specialized machines to support metal forming and machining processes. It includes an Electrical Discharge Machine (EDM), which is used for precisely removing material from hard metals through controlled electrical discharges, ideal for intricate shapes and hard-to-machine materials. The NC bending machine is a computer-controlled machine that bends metal sheets with high accuracy, allowing for the creation of complex shapes and precise angles. Additionally, we have a wire EDM machine, which utilizes a thin wire electrode to cut or shape metal parts with high precision, making it ideal for detailed designs and thin metal sheets. These diverse tools provide the necessary training and hands-on experience to understand and perform high-precision machining and metal forming tasks.
