Title of the Lecture: Voyage Through Space & Time, BUT at Small (Microscopic) Scales
Abstract:
Man, from prehistoric times, has been fascinated by time and space, with initial questions about the change of season, the flow of rivers, the position of stars, the height of mountains, to name a few. As civilization progressed, efforts were made to understand these phenomena better and better. While progress was made at large lengths and time scales, dramatic advances were also made at microscopic or molecular scales. Recent times have seen interrogation at picosecond to femtosecond time scales and nanometer to sub-nanometer length scales. We shall chronicle some of the advances with an emphasis on biology and chemistry.
