University of Kelaniya Ranked No. 1 in Sri Lanka for Sustainability Impact Ranking
The University of Kelaniya has officially been recognized as the No. 1 university in Sri Lanka in the prestigious Times Higher Education (THE) Sustainability Impact Ratings 2026. Placing in the global 401–600 rank band with an impressive overall score band of 66.2–73.8, the university continues to lead national efforts in driving sustainable development. This milestone highlights our core institutional strengths, particularly in SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) with a standout score band of 80.7–89.1, alongside key impact areas in Gender Equality (SDG 5), Clean Water and Sanitation (SDG 6), and No Poverty (SDG 1).
The UI GreenMetric World University Ranking is a ranking on green campus and environmental sustainability initiated by Universitas Indonesia in 2010. Through 39 indicators in 6 criteria, UI GreenMetric World University Rankings prudently determined the rankings by universities’ environmental commitment and initiatives. See more
The University of Kelaniya was awarded the Merit Trophy of Commendation in the “Best Government Institution that Contributes to the Environment” category for its excellent contribution towards environmental conversation and sustainability at the prestigious Presidential Environment Awards Ceremony 2024, conducted by the Central Environmental Authority of the Ministry of Environment, on 28th June 2024, at the Main Hall, BMICH.
