Concert Orchestra

Learn:                      Instrument basics, music reading

Extra Commitments:   3+ concerts, Solo Contest April (mandatory), possible before/after school rehearsals (minimal), 20-30 min practice/night

Philharmonic

Periods:                   3

Experience:             1+ years

Learn:                      Ensemble skills, instrument pedagogy, advanced music reading, vibrato

Extra commitments: 3+ concerts, Solo Contest February, or April (mandatory), possible before/after school rehearsals  (minimal,) possible UIL contest participation, 30 min practice/night

Symphony Orchestra

Periods:                   5

Experience:             1+ years

Learn:                      Ensemble skills, instrument pedagogy, advanced music reading (grade 3+ literature)

Pre-requisites:          Consistent vibrato, attendance, maturity, appropriate size and quality rental or purchase instrument, private lessons (rare exceptions based upon need)

Extra commitments: 4+ concerts, Solo Contest February (mandatory), possible before/after school rehearsals (minimal,) UIL  contest participation, 30-45 min minimum practice/night, Region Orchestra, 5th grade TA (optional)

Chamber Orchestra

Periods:                   4

Experience:             1+ years

Learn:                      Ensemble skills, instrument pedagogy, advanced music reading (grade 4+)

Pre-requisites:          Consistent vibrato, attendance, shifting, appropriate size and quality rental or purchase instrument, high level of maturity, ability to handle consistent stressful situations and balance a heavy load of practice, private lessons strongly encouraged

Extra commitments: 4+ concerts, possible 5th grade TA, possible out of state trip performances, 1-hour minimum practice/night

Mandatory:             Region Orchestra auditions, Solo Contest February (mandatory), weekly before/after school rehearsals, UIL contest participation
