Instrument Supply Lists

After a student's 1st or 2nd year, it is reccommended that they start thinking about a step- up instrument. Here is a list of the most dependable models:

Flute – Yamaha 462, Trevor James Chanson or Virtuoso, Powell Sonare 505 or higher

Bb Clarinet – Buffet R-13

Alto Saxophone – Selmer Super Action 80, Yamaha Custom

Trumpet – Yamaha Xeno, Bach Stradivarius

Q= Can the step-up instrument be rented?

A= No, it cannot be rented like a beginner instrument, but it can definitely be financed. 

Q= Can I try out the instrument before buying?

A= YES, Music stores will allow you to test and compare models before purchasing. 

Q= What should I do before buying the step-up instrument?

A= Try out the step-up instrument for several days before making the final purchase to make sure it is a good fit. If you are in lessons, play the instrument for your teacher and talk with your instructor about it. If you are not in lessons, talk to the band directors about it.
