Summer Camps and Programs
Overall there are hundreds of camps to choose from around the state and the country. The link below from the Johnson String Company has a pretty good list of what's available.
Below is more information on Texas Music Camps: (Information compiled by Ms. Carly Galloway)
-Location: Texas State University in San Marcos, TX
-Fees: Overnight Campers - $675 Includes all classes and activities, overnight housing, meals, a camp t-shirt and group photo. Day Campers - $425 Includes all classes and activities, lunches, a camp t-shirt and group photo. $150.00 deposit is required at the time you submit your application.
-Scholarships: very limited funds available for camp participants. To help keep costs down, it is recommended that you pursue community support through local businesses and fundraisers. Participants from the 2015 All-State Orchestras are eligible for a tuition credit (not including room and board).
-June 26-July 2
-Activities include daily rehearsals, classes and performances, private lessons, electives, All-State etude clinic, and chamber music
Location: Pershing Middle School in Houston, TX
-Audition Requirements: Two solo works in contrasting styles; these may be a movement from a sonata or a concerto, or an etude of your choice. Please prepare no more than 1 – 1 1/2 pages of music from each piece. All-Region/All-State audition music and UIL Solo music is acceptable. A two or three octave major scale of your choice and a one-octave chromatic scale. Major scales must demonstrate shifting.
-Fees: $825 + $35 enrollment fee
-Scholarships: AFA believes that financial hardship should never be a barrier between young musicians and the experiences that shape their futures. Need-based financial aid is intended for applicants with a genuine financial need or for those who would not be able to attend without tuition assistance support. Merit-based scholarships for significant musical achievements (examples are listed on application). In 2015, nearly 3 in 5 students applied for and received financial aid or merit scholarships to attend AFA.
-June 27-July 16
-Activities include Orchestra (plus sectional rehearsals), Chamber Music, Master & Studio Classes, Music Theory & Enrichment Classes
-Location: Baylor University in Waco, TX
-Fees: The cost of the seven-day camp is $515.00 which includes tuition, dormitory, meals, and activities. Applications must be accompanied by a $100 non-refundable deposit, which will be applied toward the total cost of the camp.
-Audition Requirements: Each student will be asked to audition for placement in the ensembles for the camp. Audition materials will be placed on our website by mid-May. You may also be asked to sight read and/or perform your major scales.
-Activities include large ensemble rehearsals, chamber music sessions, and master class lessons on their instrument, as well as recreational activities such as swimming, basketball, soccer, softball, and evening socials
-Deadline: May 27
Location: University of North Texas in Denton, TX
-Fees: Tuition is $410, For minors (under 18 years old): double occupancy (7 nights) $130, For Adult (18 years and old): single occupancy (7 nights) $160, Meal plan (3 meals per day) $155, Dormitory supervision fee for all minors under 18 years old (at the time of the institute) $50
-Auditions: Two contrasting solo pieces. Uploaded video to accessible link on the internet (Youtube or Vimeo only)
-Session 1: June 17-24
-Session 2: June 24-July 1
-Activities include private lessons, chamber music, string orchestra, clinics, masterclasses, and concerts will be the focus of an intense workshop for violinists, violists, cellists, double bassists, and harpists.

-Summer Conservatory: June 19-23
*Audition Information: 1-page performance resume; Pre-screening recording should include 2 contrasting pieces and 4 major scales of your choosing, Upload your recording and provide the URL in the appropriate blank on the Application Form (YouTube, Vimeo, DropBox, Google Drive, and other storage systems are all acceptable)
*Tuition: Resident Camper $425
*Activities: Chamber ensembles, masterclasses, private lessons, elective classes, Conservatory Solo Competition

- HS Orchestra Camp: June 26-30
*Tuition: Resident Camper $425
*Audition Information: Auditions will be held the first day of the camp, immediately following camper check-in. Campers will need to prepare a 2-3 minute solo or musical selection for auditions.
*Activities include sectionals, full orchestra, rehearsal, chamber music, music elective, recreation time, afternoon and night activities
*Deadline: June 12th
-Location: UT Arlington in Arlington, Texas
-Fees: Tuition $225 + Dorm & Meals $230
-Audition Information: The audition music consists of excerpts from the music that the orchestras will be playing during camp. It will be sent to registered participants in June.
-Activities include orchestra rehearsals, sectional rehearsals, electives, All-State clinics
-Deadline: May 28th
