Grades and Assessments
Klein ISD elementary music programs utilize a sequential curriculum that provides many opportunities for your child's progress to be assessed.
Music Academic Grade: (1st-5th grade levels will have at minimum)
at least 2 Major grades (Music Memory Listening Assessment; Participation, Memory Song Activities)
at least 4 minor grades (Memory Song testing including assessment of singing w/ steady beat, singing w/ rhythm, singing w/ solfa, playing song on xylophone and maintaining matching voice; Writing Memory Song; Audience etiquette; Musical skill performance grades; Bringing music supplies)
Report Cards:
K, 1 and 2 grades will be represented on their report card in Letter form (E= 90-100, S= 80-89, N= 70-79, U= Below 70), per Mastery of each individual skill.
3, 4, and 5 grades will be represented in Letter form (E= 90-100, S= 80-89, N= 70-79, U= Below 70). The grade received will reflect their grade average of all skills assessed.
Music Conduct Grade:
Students will receive a cumulative grade for the nine weeks. All students begin with an 'E' and have a goal to maintain that grade. Conduct marks and notes home will result in a 10 point deduction to their grade with each infraction.
