Michael Dick (Mr. D) is beginning his 21st year of teaching and 3rd year as Director of Bands at Doerre Intermediate in Klein ISD. Prior to joining Doerre, Mr. Dick was the Director of Bands at Irons Junior High in Conroe ISD for 5 years and taught at Cook Middle School in Cypress-Fairbanks ISD for 13 years, including 8 as Director of Bands. Mr. Dick graduated from the University of Houston with a Bachelor of Music with Teacher Certification in 2005 and studied with Tom Bennett, David Bertman, John Benzer and Dr. Blake Wilkins. In 2024, he received the Master of Arts in Band Studies at Sam Houston State University and studied with Dr. Matthew McInturf, Dr. Brian Gibbs and Professor Darla McBryde. His bands are consistent UIL Sweepstakes winners, and his ensembles have been named Best in Class or Runner-Up in Class at various Houston area festivals.
The Cook MS Symphonic Winds advanced to the Area Honor Band Competition 4 times and placed 5th in the 2011 State Honor Band Competition. The Symphonic Winds was a three-time Commended Winner in the Mark of Excellence National Wind Band Honors Competition and the Symphonic Winds and Percussion Ensemble performed at the 2017 Music for All National Festival in Indianapolis, Indiana.
At Irons, the Wind Ensemble was selected as a TMEA Invited Ensemble and performed at the 2021 TMEA Virtual Convention. The Wind Ensemble was named 1st Runner-Up in the Region 9 CCC Honor Band Competition and was also named a National and Commended Winner in the Mark of Excellence National Wind Band Honors Competition. The Percussion Ensemble was a 3-time winner of the Outstanding MS/JH Percussion Ensemble at the Director's Choice Percussion Ensemble Festival.
While at Doerre, the Symphonic Band is a consistent UIL Sweepstakes Winner. The 2024-25 Symphonic Band was selected to perform at the Klein ISD Veteran's Day Celebration and advanced to the TMEA Area Honor Band Competition. The 2025 Beginning Band was named Best in Class at the Klein Music Festival.
Mr. Dick is an active clinician and adjudicator throughout Texas. He has presented for the Sam Houston State University Middle School Band Workshops and the Texas Bandmasters Association Convention, and is on staff at Cougar Band Camp at the University of Houston. Mr. Dick’s professional affiliations include Phi Beta Mu, Texas Music Educators Association, Texas Bandmasters Association and the Texas Music Adjudicators Association. He was previously the Region 27 Representative for TBA and the TMEA Region 27 Middle School Band Coordinator. In 2018, Mr. Dick was named Teacher of the Year at Cook Middle School.
Mr. Dick and his beautiful wife, Amy, reside in Tomball with Kennedy, their beautiful daughter, a talented musician who plays piano, sings in the North Houston Children's Choir and plays oboe in the Doerre Intermediate Band; Kent, their handsome son who loves machines; and Coleson, who just turned 8 months old.
Andrew Burnett is beginning his 3rd year of teaching as the Assistant Band Director at Doerre Intermediate School in Klein ISD. He graduated from the University of Houston with a Bachelor of Music with Teacher Certification in 2023. In the Spring of 2023, Mr. Burnett completed his student teaching at Friendswood HS in Friendswood ISD and Victory Lakes Intermediate in Clear Creek ISD. He is originally from Corpus Christi, and was a Texas All-State Clarinet player. Mr. Burnett teaches the Concert Band I, all beginning woodwind classes and the beginning euphonium/tuba class. Under Mr. Burnett's direction, the Concert Band I is a consistent UIL Sweepstakes Award winner. In 2025, the Doerre Beginning Band was named Best in Class at the Klein Music Festival. Mr. Burnett is also on staff of the Klein ISD and University of Houston Summer Band Camps. He is a member of the Texas Bandmasters Association and the Texas Music Educators Association.
