How do I join the Doerre Band?
Rank 'Band' as your #1 elective choice on your Course Selection Sheet when they come out in early Spring. If you change your mind after returning your course selection sheet you may contact your child's counselor and request a course change to BAND. All requests must be received in writing (email works) before the final June deadline.
What instruments may I choose from?
Beginner band instruments are Flute, Oboe, Bassoon, Clarinet, Alto Saxophone, Trumpet, French Horn, Trombone, Euphonium, Tuba, and Percussion. Click here to learn more. You may also watch this video from the United States Army Field Band demonstrating all the instruments.
How do I know what instrument to choose?
The Doerre Band directors meet with every incoming band member to help them choose the correct instrument during an Instrument Drive in mid-Spring. If you have a positive attitude and a willingness to work hard, you will be great in the Doerre Band!
When are the Beginner Band Rehearsals and Performances?
Band is considered co-curricular so it is a class that meets EVERYDAY during the same class period. Beginning Band students will perform three concerts, perform at one or two competitions and individual students will perform at the Doerre Beginning Band Solo Contest. Prior to each concert, there will be one full band rehearsal scheduled before or after school. Please see the Doerre Band Calendar for all performance and rehearsal dates.
If I am in Band, can I also be Sports?
YES! The Doerre coaches and band directors work together so that students can participate in band AND sports. We also have many Doerre band students who play sports at Doerre AND club sports as well.
If I am in Band, can I also be in other student clubs?
YES! We have numerous Doerre Band students who participate in two and sometimes three clubs while at Doerre.
What if I'm going to Kleb or Ulrich?
Everything is exactly the same! We would love for you to be in band at any school! Contact the directors at Kleb or Ulrich if you have any other specific questions.
