Glimpse of a day at school

Song and movement during a morning meeting at the school in Takhta District

The students start their day in huddles, where they engage in activities involving movement and music to activate their entire bodies. Most of these incorporate Armenian folk songs and dances to keep the culture and tradition alive. They also engage in tasks to process and share their thoughts and emotions. These routines help them acknowledge their whole selves and be fully present.

Movement and arts are integrated through each of the lessons as well. Tasks are designed for the students to explore possibilities independently, work with each other, and share their thoughts, reflections and questions. This allows them to build their own identity and strong relationships. They engage in activities and projects that blend the content and the daily lives.

Music is often used for transition between lessons instead of a school bell. Time and spaces are dedicated for students to engage in activities that nourish the mind and the body. Students can either care for their plants in the school garden, play a sport, or be alone in silent spaces. The caregivers and families conduct and attend workshops with the learners. This helps blur the lines between the school and the community and brings a sense of togetherness.
