Welcome to Traip Academy Office of School Counseling

The Traip Academy School Counseling Team works to maximize student success, while promoting access and equity for all students. Our role is to provide support and guidance to students and families as they navigate high school and prepare for the future. As an integral part of the school community Traip Counseling Staff help to create a positive school culture for all students resulting in academic, social and emotional success.

Senior Year Checklist

Prepare to send Early Action/Early Decision applications - Have a parent, teacher or counselor review your application before you send.
Send a transcript request to your school counselor - Every college will require a copy of your transcript from your high school. Remember to send a transcript request early enough to your school counselor so she can send your transcript to each of the colleges you applied to in a timely fashion.
Fill out the FAFSA - Complete the FAFSA for the 2026-2027 school year. The earlier you complete it, the sooner you have an idea of your financial options.
Log into College Board to send SAT scores to colleges - Complete the information to send your scores directly to the colleges that you choose.
Research and apply to available scholarships. Many scholarships are sent out via Reach My Teach to Seniors and their parents from the Counseling Office on a bi-monthly basis.

Hagan Scholarship

The Hagan Scholarship is a need-based merit scholarship for seniors graduating in 2026. Hagan will award 1,200 new four-year scholarships for the upcoming 2026-2027 academic year in college.

The scholarship criteria is as follows:

Must attend a high school in the US
Must have achieved an unweighted 3.5 GPA based on a 4.0 Grading Scale
Must enroll in a four-year college or university, in the 2026 fall semester
FAFSA information is NOT required to apply
Must work 240 hours from January 1, 2026 to September 1, 2026
Award recipients will receive $2,000 to purchase essential items for college
Award recipients will be eligible to receive up to $7,500 each semester
After graduation from college, recipients can apply for a Hagan Graduate Scholarship
Parents 2024 Adjusted Gross Income must not have exceeded $100,000
The application deadline is December 1, 2025
Scholarships will be awarded in April 2026

The Clyde Russell Scholarship Fund offers financial awards to Maine graduating high school seniors to attend a 4-year college or a Maine community college. This fund was created by the Maine Education Association through a trust established by the late Audrey Lewis, past President of the Maine Teachers Association.

Awards for Seniors who will attend a four year college will not exceed $10,000 and awards for Seniors attending Maine community college will not exceed $2,000. Awards cover tuition, room and board and fees. The awards are paid directly to the winner, half upon receipt of each semester grades. In granting the awards, the Trustees will consider personal traits and qualities, extracurricular activities, community activities, academic ability, motivation and personal goals and objectives.

In this newsletter each month, I hope to bring awareness about a variety of Mental Health topics, as well as strategies and resources.

Did you know that November is Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month? Mental Health plays an important role in our overall health and well-being. Here are some important facts:

Researchers have found that 1 in 10 men experience depression or anxiety
Men are far less likely than women to seek treatment for mental health concerns
Men are much more likely than women to die by suicide
Compared to women, men are also much more likely to die from alcohol-related causes, and misuse drugs

In recent years, there has been an increased focus on supporting men’s mental health and reducing the stigma associated with getting support.

The following PREVENTATIVE practices are helpful in supporting mental health:

Regular Exercise/Physical Activity
Getting Outdoors
Social Connection
Practicing Positivity, Mindfulness, and Breathing
Good Nutrition
Keep Communication Open ~ Check-in Often

Another LOCAL RESOURCE specifically for Men ~ Stay; For Life https://www.stayforlife.org/

This organization focuses on Men’s Mental Health. The website includes additional resources, and they hold a weekly Man to Man Peer Support Group (18+) at locations in both Wells and Acton, Maine.
