Exploring Books
It has been lovely to see the children’s enthusiasm for books this month. They enjoy exploring a variety of board books with bright pictures, simple stories, and interactive elements. Children are becoming more confident in handling books, turning pages independently, and pointing to familiar objects or characters. During group story sessions, they are beginning to sit for short periods, listen attentively, and respond with sounds, gestures, and smiles.
We have noticed children attempting to imitate sounds, babble along with familiar phrases, and occasionally use single words related to pictures they recognise. Some children enjoy bringing books to adults, showing their desire to share the experience and engage together. Repetition of favourite stories has supported their understanding and memory.
These early experiences are helping to build important communication and language skills, as well as fostering curiosity and a love for books. It has been wonderful to watch their confidence and enjoyment continue to grow each day.

Book Week in Reception!
Book Week was truly incredible- a joyful celebration of reading and storytelling. It was a wonderful reminder of how magical books can be. The children immersed themselves in a wide range of activities, from capturing creative “extreme reading” photos to meeting author Sarita Alam, who shared the inspiration behind her story Blimpo the Hippie.
They also enjoyed taking part in Mr. Gumpy’s tea party, reading aboard a boat, listened to parents reading books in their mother tongue and dressing up as their favorite book characters! Each experience helped spark imagination and deepen their love for reading, creating memories that will last far beyond the week itself!

This month during Messy & Fun Play, our early years students explored sensory activities with great enthusiasm. They independently took off their socks and shoes, dipped their feet into paint, and carefully walked while enjoying the slippery sensation. As they experimented, we asked what would happen if we mixed red and yellow, and they excitedly discovered the answer: orange!
The fun continued with shaving cream, where they mixed colours with great excitement. Messy play can certainly be untidy, but it is also a joyful and valuable learning experience for our students.

Messy&Fun Play
PSED - Healthy Eating in KG3
Our KG3 learners enjoyed a fun and engaging outdoor lesson focused on healthy eating and why it is important for our bodies. Being outside created an exciting feeling, where the children could explore, move freely, and connect learning with the world around them.
During the lesson, we spoke about different types of foods and how they help us grow strong and stay healthy.
The children were introduced to the idea of “everyday foods” like fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, as well as “sometimes foods” that we should enjoy in moderation. Through discussion and play, they began to understand how food gives us energy to run, play, and learn.
The children shared ideas, and practiced the art of listening to one another, and expressing their preferences.
This lesson helped build confidence, independence, and an early awareness of healthy habits in a meaningful and enjoyable way. We ended off our outdoor lesson with a healthy amount of popcorn!

Reception VG April Highlights
April was filled with exciting learning experiences and celebrations!
We celebrated International Day, where the children had a wonderful time dressing up in their traditional attire and learning interesting facts about different countries. It was a great opportunity to appreciate diversity and explore cultures from around the world.
A key highlight this month was our exploration of the story Mr. Gumpy’s Outing. The children enjoyed reading the story and engaging in a variety of related activities. They created boats using origami, developed story maps to build their language and retelling skills, and drew the story setting.
In Maths, we continued to strengthen our understanding through play-based learning. The children are developing the ability to 'see' and understand math concepts before solving problems, building a strong foundation in early numeracy.
Book Week was another exciting event, with children enthusiastically dressing up as their favourite book characters. Their excitement brought many fictional characters to life. Mr. Buga also visited our classroom to listen to the children read to him.

The KG1&2 class trip to Speke Resort Munyonyo was a truly memorable experience for both the children and teachers. From the moment we set off, the excitement was clear as the children eagerly boarded the bus, chatting and laughing with their friends. The bus ride itself became part of the adventure, giving them a real-life connection to our topic on transport.
Upon arrival, the children were thrilled to explore the beautiful surroundings of the resort. One of the highlights was the cart ride, which added to the adventure. The children enjoyed observing the environment around them.
The most exciting part of the trip was the horse rides. For many of the children, this was their first time encountering and riding horses. Despite initial hesitation from some, they showed remarkable bravery and confidence as they took turns being gently led around. It was wonderful to see their faces light up with pride and joy.
This trip reinforced several of the topics we have explored throughout the past school terms , including transport, animals, and connecting with nature. It provided the children with hands-on experiences that deepened their understanding in a meaningful and enjoyable way. Overall, it was a day filled with laughter, learning, and unforgettable memories.
