Celebrating Chinese Lunar New Year at KISU
What an incredible week at KISU as we celebrated the Chinese Lunar New Year, also known as the Spring Festival! The school was abuzz with excitement as students explored Chinese culture through hands-on activities like making delicious dumplings and creating stunning Chinese calligraphy artwork.
The week culminated in a vibrant whole-school assembly, where the Auditorium was a sea of red—a color symbolizing fire, energy, vitality, and good fortune in Chinese culture. Students, staff, and parents joined in wearing red, embracing the traditions that make this festival so meaningful.
The assembly showcased a spectacular celebration of Chinese culture, featuring music, performances, and a fashion show. These displays highlighted the rich traditions of the Chinese community while also celebrating the multicultural diversity that makes KISU so special.
A heartfelt thank you to our Chinese community for their input and to everyone who participated in making this celebration memorable. It was truly a week of learning, unity, and appreciation—a reflection of the vibrant global community we are proud to have at KISU!
Here’s to more cultural celebrations that inspire us to learn and grow together!

Food Technology at KISU
Nutrition and Food Technology at KISU
Dear Parents and Students,
I am excited to introduce the Nutrition and Food Technology (Food-Tech) classes at KISU. As we embark on this engaging journey, I am honored to share the experiences that await our students.
In our practical sessions, students are developing essential preparation and cooking skills, including cutting, kneading, and baking. We explore a variety of cuisines, ingredients, and cooking techniques, encouraging creativity and building confidence in the kitchen. These experiences, and so much more, are in store for our students.
As a newly introduced subject at our school, Nutrition and Food Technology not only equips students with practical cooking skills but also provides a deeper understanding of food science, nutrition, health, food production, and food security. We aim to foster sustainability and promote informed food choices.
We are committed to making this learning experience engaging, interactive, and enjoyable. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
I look forward to a delicious and informative year ahead!
Best regards,
Ms. Nalwanga Madina,
Nutrition and Food Technology Teacher,
Embracing Technology to transform the teaching of Mathematics
At KISU, we are embracing the power of technology to transform how Mathematics is taught and learned, achieving faster syllabus coverage and deeper comprehension of complex concepts. By tools such as MyiMaths, Desmos, and the Graphical Display Calculator’s Student Software, our students are empowered to bridge the gap between abstract mathematical theories and their real-world applications. These platforms allow learners to visualise concepts through interactive illustrations and dynamic diagrams, making terminology and processes more relatable and engaging.
This January, Year 11 and DP2 students have taken a major step forward in their academic journey with a mock exam experience designed to mirror their final assessments. Using the diverse range of resources—including online textbooks, School Support Hub, and Revision Village—students have been challenged to think critically and refine their problem-solving strategies. This approach not only enhances their exam preparedness but also builds essential analytical skills for lifelong learning.
We are proud to see our learners thriving as they master the tools of the modern world to excel in Mathematics.

Fun, Service and Awareness – The Student Council Way
Welcome back to Term 2! The Student Council is excited to kick off another term full of opportunities to enhance student engagement and build a better community for all learners at KISU.
We started the term with an inspiring speech on New Year resolutions and updates on mock examinations for Year 11 and DP2 students. We also introduced key initiatives for the term, including the highly anticipated Spirit Week.
In Week 2, we celebrated World Religion Day and National Youth Day while launching a healthy eating initiative. After meeting with the School Director, Mr Lee, and the Canteen Manager, Mr Sridhar, the council committed to encouraging students to adopt healthier lifestyles.
Week 3 brought the celebration of the International Day of Education, where we explored the link between learning and well-being, including the benefits of nutritious eating.
Week 4 marked Data Privacy Day, raising awareness about protecting personal information in an increasingly digital world.
Special thanks to our Student Council representatives—Kahaan, Samwiri, Abigail, Shaymaa, Caroline, Tanish, Audrey, Priscilla, and Rishabh—for their inspiring contributions.
Looking ahead, we're excited about Spirit Week in February. It's a chance to dress up, have fun, and raise funds for three charitable causes. Let's make it unforgettable!
