Your existing lesson is now imported into Lumio, and is ready to be edited like any other Lumio document. All lessons (imported or new) are automatically saved in the "Lumio" folder in your Google Drive.
Select "Import" on the Lumio Home Page, and then select "Google Drive".
Navigate to the file in your Drive and click "Select".
Lumio will allow you to select the pages you would like to import. By default, all pages are selected. Once you pick the pages to import, click "Add".
Alternatively, you may go to your Google Drive, find the file you would like to open, right click on it, select "Open With" and then "Lumio by SMART".
Lumio gives you a large amount of options when creating a new lesson. Conveniently, the menu you see when creating a new lesson is the same menu you see when adding a page to an existing lesson.
Select the "New" button in the top left of the home page.
This is the "Add page" menu that you will see every time you create a new lesson or add a page. There are many various types of pages you can add, such as:
Existing Resources and Library: The import resource button brings you back to the same options seen earlier in the "Importing Existing Lessons" section. The search bar allows you to search the Library for various templates/lessons that may already exist. Feel free to search the library before creating a lesson to see if there are any templates/lessons that already exist.
YouTube, Desmos, and PhET: These three options allow you to embed a "simulation" directly into your lesson. The YouTube function will allow you to add a YouTube video as a slide. The Desmos function allows you to embed the Desmos graphing calculator into your lesson for students to use. The PhET function allows you to embed PhET simulations provided by the University of Colorado Boulder.
Templates: These templates can be modified and incorporated into your lesson. Shout it out, response, and game-based activities are all interactive templates that will be covered in the "Adding Interactivity" section.
Ready Made Resources: These activities are designed to engage students and get them thinking about a certain topic.
Activating Prior Knowledge
Activating Prior Knowledge templates allows you to gain insight on what a student may already know about a certain topic/lesson. You can use this information to gauge how much time you need to spend on certain parts of your lesson.
Questioning & Reflection
Questioning & Reflection is designed to be used during / after the lesson. This will allow you to gauge how students are grasping the material being taught. You can question them on material that was in your lesson.
Manipulatives
Manipulatives are extremely useful in the elementary level schools. You can add virtual manipulatives such as base 10 blocks, coins, fraction tiles, clocks, and more.
Graphic Organizers
Graphic Organizers are exactly what the name implies - things like Content Mapping, Cause and Effect, Notes, Scientific Method, Story map and more. Using digital copies of these organizers can be more engaging for the learner.
Once you select the pages/activities you would like to add, click the "add" button to create your lesson / add them to an existing lesson.
You have now added a new page to your new Lumio lesson/existing lesson.
