On the 31st of January, Korea International School Jeju Campus Student Council, or KISJ STUCO, arranged another party for KISJ students. Just like all the parties in the past, it was held in the mini Performing Arts Centre, or mini PAC, despite the requests from students asking STUCO to organize the party in the PAC. There was no entrance fee, and students outside KISJ were also welcomed. Lilac had an optional dress code of blue and purple, which provided a raffle ticket if you followed the dress code.
The theme for this year’s winter formal was “Lilac”, which has a meaning of “being unified by sound” in Chinese traditional characters. Louis L. (G11) and Scott K. (G10) from STUCO were the MCs for the party with Joe C. (G12) as the DJ. The party was special not only with its color theme, but also with STUCO’s collaboration with Gold Pasta, which includes KISJ’s most talented musicians and artists. Joe C. (G12) in Gold Pasta came up with a suggestion to STUCO, which was combining visual art and music from Gold Pasta’s artists to design and decorate the party. Even though STUCO has always been amazing at organizing parties, they could organize an even better one by collaborating with Gold Pasta.
Harry Y. (G11), a grade 11 representative in STUCO, said “Just like the last Halloween party, STUCO had to overcome some hardships during the preparation stage, such as a budget problem, but the final product turned out to be great with many students enjoying the party. Thank you so much for those who helped organize the party and also those who came to the party and please look forward to the next party!” It must be very satisfying to watch people enjoying the party that you organized and decorated. It seems that students appreciate STUCO for their hard work and effort they put into those parties along the year as they are willing to participate in those parties that STUCO organized.
Along with the decorations of the party, another highlight of the party was students’ live performances including singing, dancing, and rapping. Julie P. (G11) was one of the students who enjoyed the performances as she said that the party was “very exciting because of the unique performances”. She also mentioned the dance floor was memorable because of the student from MIT, who totally “killed” the dance floor.
Dance floor can be the best part of the party, however, if you are a president or vice president of your club, you might want to pay more attention to parties in the future as parties like Lilac can provide club presidents an opportunity to do a fundraiser before, during, and even after the party. This year, fundraising teams sold snacks, drinks, and Polaroid films. The money that was raised through these parties could be used for future development for the club.
As Lilac was another amazing party hosted by STUCO, KISJ students will be looking forward to other unique parties for the rest of the 2018-19 school year.
