Jeju Island province encompasses the South Korean island of Jeju in the Korea Strait. About 2 million years ago, the island of Jeju was formed through volcanic activity. Jeju Island is 1,848 square kilometers and has a population of about 600,000 people. It is known for its beach resorts and volcanic landscape of craters and cavelike lava tubes. Today, Jeju is a popular holiday destination and a sizable portion of the economy relies on tourism and economic activity from its civil and naval base. This attracts people who prefer to be active.
1. Hallasan National Park
Hallasan Mountain, UNESCO World Heritage, is the most memorable landmarks in Jeju Island. It also called Yeongjusan Mountain, meaning "mountain high enough to pull the galaxy.” Hallasan Mountain is widely known by scientists for its geological value. There are 368 parasitic volcanoes called Oreums around the main mountain, and there are over 1,800 kinds of plants and 4,000 species of animals have been identified.
2. Jeju Kitesurfing
Many tourists refer to Jeju Island as Korean Hawaii. Jeju Kitesurfing has over 20 spots on one single island that works in different wind directions. If tourists want to rent equipment, this place is here to help: internationally certified instructors, all sizes of equipment. Visitors are able to perceive the beauty of the Jeju ocean view and the freshness of the sky at once. Moreover, for those who are not afraid of active sports and heights, the experience of flying across the clear winds of Jeju will be invaluable.
3. Spirited Garden
The history of this park is valuable. In 1968, Director Sung set on his project to turn a piece of deserted 'wasteland' at Jeoji-ri, Hanyoung-myon into something else. Consisting of 7 small gardens and auxiliary facilities, this Spirited Garden provides spaces that surrounded by waterfall, ponds, stone bridges as well as trees. Nowadays, high walls built in order to protect trees from strong winds became castles and the architectures built to house exhibitions and to serve convenience purposes now represent the beauty of nature in Jeju.
4. Teseum Jeju
Teddy Bear Safari is the world's first aquarium theme park with exotic real-life species and plush marine animals and teddy bears. There are bears dressed in traditional clothes from countries around the world and as gods of Greek mythology. Moreover, some of the Teddy Bears dressed up as Korean celebrities. It is loved by all, regardless of gender and age, and is not unique to Jeju, but it is a popular place in Jeju because of Jeju Green Tea, which can be drunk inside the Teddy Bear Museum.
5. Jeju Kimnyoung Maze Park
Gimnyeong Maze Park is located between the two major tourist destinations of Manjanggul Cave and Gimnyeongsagul Cave. The maze is in the shape of the Jeju Island, and its images that can be clearly seen from above include the following: a serpent, which was an object of worship on the island until the mid-70s; native horses of Jeju Island.
