BANGKOK COMMUNITY HELP

One goal for our PYP Student Council and House Captains is to be caring and inclusive. This is why we decided to help support another amazing organization in Bangkok during the Covid panademic. Started by Mr. Greg Lange last year during our first Covid lockdown, the organization helps people who have lost their jobs or other hardships because of Covid and the situation they are presented with. Mr. Greg collects food, used clothing, toys, and furniture, as well as personal necessities such as soap, diapers, toothbrushes etc. and brings them to people living in Klong Toei.

We can help this organization by donating 19 Baht that will go towards a meal for one person. We can also bring non-perishable food and other goods (soap, rice, shampoo, canned food) to the school when our parents exchange our library books or passing by the school and drop them off in the box next to the library books. Ms. Magda will collect the donations and bring them to Mr. Greg. Here is the bank information for your parents if you would like to donate money:

PAPER RANGER

This year the student council decided to support an awesome organization called Paper Ranger. Paper Ranger was started in Thailand by a group of university students in 2007. Their goal is to make notebooks for underprivileged students. They do this by collecting and accepting donations of A4 paper that has been already used on one side.

These papers are then used to create handmade notebooks for disadvantaged children. We at KIS can help donate A4 paper that we have used only on one side.We will set up collection boxes in each class before the holidays and the papers will be collected by the student representatives when school starts after the holidays.

We will also set up a collection box in the PYP Atrium and SS Building so that students, teachers and parents can drop off the papers when they want. These papers will be collected and donated to Paper Rangers as the boxes get full.

In the future, if it is possible, we will also volunteer and do workshops to make the handmade notebooks ourselves.

We waste a lot of paper.

Did you know that paper use is one of the big reason to climate change and environmental harm?

2% of the Amazon is lost each year because of tree cutting which makes these papers! Here is a link to know how much paper is produced and wasted and how many trees are cut just to make those papers.

Helping Paper Ranger is one of the way we can reduce paper wastage in school and help save the trees.

This is also a way to show how PYP students can take ethical action to help disadvantaged children, support society and our environment.
