We decided to ask fifth class if they would take part in some research we were doing about listening. Before we began we explained what the test involved and how it would work. We also told them that the answer sheets would be completely anonymous.
We also chose some class teachers at random to interview to hear their views on fidgeting in the classroom. We put the names of all the teachers in the school onto a random name picker tool online and used this to select which teacher we interviewed.
We chose fifth class as they are the largest single class classroom in our school. We also took into consideration the age of participants when choosing as we wanted participants who would be fluent readers so that reading ability did not impact the results.
After explaining how the trial worked we asked them to sign a consent form. We didn't tell them that we were actually doing a test on fidgeting or else it would have skewed our results.
Here is the consent form that we used.
