My fourth grader "hates" to read...
Most of the time, students don't actually hate reading. They "hate" that reading can be difficult sometimes OR they aren't reading the right books.
Try graphic novels if you:
Like comics, pictures, or visual storytelling
Prefer shorter chunks of text
Enjoy action, humor, or fast-paced stories
Like to “see” what’s happening as you read
Try realistic fiction if you:
Like stories that could happen in real life
Enjoy books about friendships, family, or school
Want to relate to characters your age
Like emotional or meaningful stories
Try science fiction if you:
Are curious about space, technology, or the future
Like robots, aliens, or cool inventions
Enjoy “what if?” kind of thinking
Love action mixed with science
Try historical fiction if you:
Like learning about the past in a story form
Are curious about how people lived long ago
Enjoy adventure in a different time period
Want history to feel real and exciting
