Greetings all,
I am a future educator and would like to take some time to introduce myself and my
teaching philosophy and approach to digital learning. To start, I graduated high school
from a rural agricultural school district, and I have been immersed into other different
cultural environments during my student teaching- Urban and suburban schools at white
pine middle school and rural/ suburban schools at hemlock high school. Of the most
important skill an educator can have is the ability to connect to students. I have been
able to do this through multiple means- my love for the outdoors, sports, and
writing/literature. Having a wide range of interests and hobbies makes it easier to
connect with students. My teaching philosophy has changed during my short experience
teaching. Building student connections being the major tenant of my teaching
philosophy. If you are unable to build a connection, students will not learn or will not
even try for you as an educator. When it comes to digital learning, I have noticed
technology is a great tool to use in the classroom, but there is the potential for students
to abuse technology- something that can lead to distractions. Finding a happy medium of
technology usage and standard direct instruction is a challenge and will always be one
for educators. It is important for educators to realize that using technology in the
classroom can be another way to connect with students, but caution and prudence need
to be taken.
Biography paragraph:
To introduce myself outside of the field of education would be to describe what my
passions in life are. I am currently engaged to my fiancé and am planning to be married
next year. I have a passion for trout fishing and writing- something that I am using to
pursue publishing writing works. I also enjoy hunting with my family members. We have
an annual deer camp that we all look forward to, and I coordinate. Deer hunting for my
family is an important family tradition, but the memories made and stories told is just as
important. I also enjoy spending time woodworking with my grandpa. He has taught me
how to handle hard wood, and we even created our very own wood steamer design for
bending long strips of wood to build arches or cured designs in hardwoods. Overall, I
would define myself of a lucky jack of all trades- I have secured a beautiful woman, and I
have found ways to learn from my passions and turn them into writing.
Quote:
If I were to choose an integral that I think most everyone should live by it would be the
wise words from our 26th President Teddy Roosevelt:
“Speak softly and carry a big stick.”
My interpretation of TR’s Quote:
In life, one needs to know when to negotiate properly but also be able to discern when it
is time to fight- and have the ability to fight and be willing to do so.
