The Role of the Early Career MentorWelcome to your new role as an Early Career Mentor.
You can find a description of your new role to the left of this text.
The KGA ECT Programme Overview below shows the dates of the Mentor training that will form part of the statutory professional development for this role.
It is your responsibility to ensure that you are available and covered (if required) in order to attend the in-person/online training sessions throughout the year. Please communicate with your SLT and Cover supervisors at least 3 weeks in advance of the date and follow your school's policy for such arrangements.

All ECTs have three assessment points throughout the year, two of these are progress reviews and at the end of the year there is a formal/final assessment.
The assessment deadlines for 2025-2026 are:
Progress Review 1: Friday 28th November 2025
Progress Review 2: Friday 6th March 2026
Formal/Final Assessment: Tuesday 30th June 2026
The ECT (Early Career Teacher) assessment will be compiled by the school's Induction Tutor. This assessment form will incorporate information gathered from various sources, including the ECT, you (as the mentor), the ECT's subject/phase lead, and, when relevant, their progress lead. This data will be thoroughly reviewed to inform the final report. The information will be collated via a Google form and will be sent out to the relevant people from the central team.

All resources will be in your folder on the shared drive. You will have access to a folder for each ECT that you mentor and there you will find:

This checklist can be used as a term by term guide to the Mentor responsibilities in year 1 of being an ECM. You are welcome to print or make a copy for your own records. It should be used in conjunction with the KGA ECT Programme Overview (Rainbow Calendar) where you will find specific dates for the various events.
