Recruitment of ECTs
Our central registrations forms are now live for ECTs and Mentors. As soon as an ECT has confirmed acceptance of a position in your school, please follow the steps below:
Share the New ECT Registration form with the ECT for them to complete at their earliest convenience. Also share the New ECT Registration Form - Required Guidance Information so the ECT can see what information will be required before beginning the form.
Complete the Schools ECT Registration form - this can be done by the Induction Tutor, HR or a member of SLT who holds the information pertaining to the ECTs contract. The School: New ECT Registration Form - Required Information Guidance will show what information will need to be gathered before completing the form.
When a mentor has been assigned to the new ECT, Induction Tutors should fill out the Mentor Registration Form 2025/26. The following document shows what information will be needed to complete this form: Mentor Registration Form - Required Information Guidance
Once the DfE portal is open for registrations, these will be done on your behalf by Louisa Perkins or Tracy Hutton and Induction Tutors will be informed as to the registration status of all ECTs in your school. Induction Tutors will be contacted before this if there are any complications with the process.
Important: If there are any changes to the appointment after the form has been completed, please ensure the Changes to ECT or Mentor Form rather than return to edit the original form or fill out a second one for the same person or role. This form must also be used to notify admin of any changes to the ECTs programme, mentor, contract or employment status throughout the year. Failing to notify admin of changes affecting your ECTs could result in their training and assessment not being valid.
We are hoping this new central system for registrations will be helpful for schools but as this is our first year of working in this way, please bear with us. Any feedback you have to help us improve the forms or the process will be gratefully received.
This guidance document has been shared with Head Teachers, SLT and School Business Managers. It details the checks that the school are required to undertake with the TRA when employing an ECT. Whilst administering these checks is not the Induction Tutor's responsibility, it is important that you are aware of them and can signpost others to this guidance when necessary.
This guidance document has been designed to support Induction Tutors and Headteachers working through the reduced Induction process for ECTs. It is important to note that this should only be used in exceptional individual cases. The guidance details the evidence required for demonstrating significant teaching experience to support any applications. Please speak to Louisa Perkins before making formal applications.
This calendar gives you an overview of the programme delivery for the academic year.
This form should be completed by an the Induction Tutor following a formal observation of an ECT. Once completed, it will appear in the ECT's Digital Portfolio in the Observations sub-folder. One formal lesson observation write up is required to be uploaded to ECT Manager each term.
This template can be used to draft Progress Reviews in preparation for uploading to ECT Manager. Whilst you can write directly onto ECT Manager, it is not advised to do so due to the short 'time out' limits which can result in losing unsaved work.
Termly updates for Induction Tutors can be found here.
