Landbase Updates

Kihew Asiniy Education Centre is committed to bringing land-based teachings into the classroom as outlined in 3.0 Indigenous Knowledge and 4.0 Protection of Indigenous Knowledge and Transfer in Our SLCN Education Law.

Land-based learning typically uses an environmentally-focused approach to education by first recognizing the deep, physical, mental, and spiritual connection to the land that is a part of Indigenous cultures. This can include teaching about ceremonies, traditional medicines, the history of the land, how to be good stewards of the land, and how to speak traditional languages, among other activities. Ultimately, Indigenous-led, land-based learning can re-engage Indigenous youth in their own education, build community connectedness, and revitalize Indigenous languages and practices.

Seann Quinn

tansi! My name is Mr. Quin and I teach Phys. Ed 10, 20, & 30 and do work in land-based education. In Phys. Ed I teach not only about sports and competition, but also living a healthy lifestyle. As a land-based teacher, I seek to enhance cultural values, identity, language (nehiyawewin) and good stewardship by teaching both in class and on land.

tansi, my name is Ms. Betty (Betty Ann Moses) & I am the Land Based Learning Female Lead Instructor for kihew asiniy and onchaminahos Schools for the 2023 - 2024 school year. My mom is Barbara Stamp and my late dad was Ben Moses - I was raised on the farm on the west side of Saddle Lake and have many brothers and sisters. I enjoy teaching and learning from my teenage students, of what is new and exciting in their world and just as much from the young students. I am very thankful to be teaching in my home community and I hope everyone has a blessed year ahead. ay hay
