Greeting From Admin!

There are a few changes KAEC will be experiencing, one of them is within our leadership. We have Claudine Cardinal as the new principal of Kihew Asiniy, and Kim Memnook as vice-principal.

Principal Claudine Cardinal

tansi, Claudine Cardinal nisikason, I am the new Principal at Kihew Asiniy Education

Centre. I welcome all returning; new students, staff and parents / guardians to the 2023/2024 school year! There are many changes for many staff taking on new roles, and students moving up in their grade level.

I look forward to working with students and their parents / guardians so that we can have the best possible school year. We need to build those supportive, positive relationships with the students and parents / guardians that we work with. Myself and the staff want only the best for our students, because they are our future leaders.

When we build our students to be leaders, oskapews, helpers and learners, we are helping to build our Nation. We build our students up with respect, with knowledge, with compassion and with love. Kihew Asiniy Education Centre staff will do their part, we need to partner up and continue this when they exit our doors. Please feel free to call me at the school if you have any questions or concerns, or perhaps would like to volunteer with the school.

Vice Principal Kim Memnook

Hello! My name is Kim Memnook, vice-principal at Kihew Asiniy Education Centre. The other day I had a chuckle with one of my very first students at Kihew Asiniy when I started here four years ago. He congratulated me on my new position and said, it's like "from rags to riches!" I always remind the students that when you further your education, when you gain experience, when you take a risk to step out of your comfort zone, new opportunities and new challenges await!

I am so excited for this school year, being at Kihew Asiniy in a different capacity. I still have the joy of being in the classroom by teaching one high school course each semester. I look forward to meeting all those who enter our KA doors including parents, elders, knowledge keepers, service providers and other guests.

I believe we have a great team here and I am looking forward to working alongside Principal Claudine to deliver our education, rich in history, nehiyaw pimatisiwin along with the Alberta Program of Studies. Additionally, we are continuing with the important work of attaining accreditation with the World Indigenous Nations Higher Education Consortium. Ekosi maka pitima.
