Start Working with Government Agencies as a Subcontractor

The quickest way to get starting with working with the Federal Government is Subcontracting.

The Government is always seeking qualified small business owners, who are considering becoming Prime contractors or Subcontractors. This gives small business owners opportunities to have the largest consumer of products and services as a Client.

Where to begin?

In order to begin working with the government as a contractor, there are a few requirements that your small business owners must meet.

Step 1.

Get a Unique Entity ID, to do business with the federal government.

Step 2.

Contact your local Procurement Technical Assistance Center (PTAC) to get free help with SAM Registration Assistance. SAM is the official website to register your small business to do business with the Government.

According to Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) Subpart 4:11, the database is intended to increase the visibility of vendor records, including their geographical locations, for specific supplies and services, and to establish a common source of vendor data for the Government to locate these vendors.

Step 3.

Sign in to SAM.gov to search for opportunities to sell your product or services to the federal government. Keep track of pre-solicitations, Solicitations, and contract awards you are interested in pursuing.

Note that the Small Business Act of 1953 states that small businesses should receive a fair proportion of federal contracts and that small businesses should have the maximum practicable opportunity to participate in federal contracting.
