What are Happiness Hangouts?
During the 2019-2020, School Social Worker Mr. Pawloski created a school wide (Tier 1) "group" where all North High students can attend and partake in certain activities covering different topics such as grief (made ornaments to celebrate a loved one) or anxiety (made calming jars). Now, schools like East High and Independence High are doing them as well.
During the 2020-2021 school year, Happiness Hangouts were adapted for virtual participation. Check out the google slides below where each month covers a certain topic. Enjoy links to videos and resources with North High's monthly virtual Happiness Hangout.
Below was the start of Virtual Happiness Hangout that North and East High schools collaborated on, an idea from School Social Worker Natasha Martinez. Enjoy the mindfulness techniques and hope they help!!!
Materials needed: Jar or Plastic Bottle, 1/2 cup of clear glue, 1 drop of gel food color, 1 tsp. of glitter, sequins (just a few), water (warm), and super glue.
Directions: Add glue, food color, glitter, and sequins to jar. Add warm water to fill to the top (do not use boiling water). Leave a little room at the top. When the bottle is full up to the neck, put cap on with super glue.
Note: The more clear glue you add, the longer it takes for the glitter to settle.
