Audio/Video Production
Students will explore media forms such as commercials, public service announcements, movie scenes, documentaries, and music videos. Skills learned will include pre-production planning and writing, production, post production, camera techniques, equipment use, video editing and graphics, and sound editing. Additional emphasis in this course will be media literacy and digital citizenship, encouraging students to think critically to analyze current media forms as well as media industry practices.
At the end of this course, you will:
Through assigned readings, the viewing of numerous videos, and the completion of a series of video assignments, you are expected to acquire an understanding of the basic elements of video and audio production.
This understanding should include the following areas:
1. Gain an understanding about the history of A/V, pre-production, production, and postproduction
2. Demonstrate knowledge and appropriate use of digital and analog video systems, software applications, and communication and networking components.
3. Compare, contrast, and appropriately use the various input, processing, output, and primary/secondary storage devices.
4. Make decisions regarding the selection, acquisition, and use of software taking under consideration its quality, appropriateness, effectiveness, and efficiency.
5. Delineate and make necessary adjustments regarding compatibility issues including, but not limited to, digital file formats and cross platform connectivity.
6. Use vocabulary related to video and audio technology.
7. Compare and contrast linear and nonlinear editing.
8. Ability to critique the strengths and weakness of video productions.
9. Express personal creativity and effectively translate these creative ideas into video productions.
10. Demonstrate mixing of audio and sound techniques, including common audio problems.
11. Demonstrate knowledge of Camera placement and operations, including basic understanding of camera color balancing, camera optics, visual composition, light levels, and the use of special filters. 12. Use of appropriate lighting techniques, including existing light, bounced light and three-point lighting.
13. Explore and prepare for careers in A/V.
14. Learn about 21st Century and Employability Skills.
Probably the most important, the course will provide an opportunity for you to create a variety of video productions, allowing you to express personal creativity while developing the ability to conceptualize story ideas and effectively translate these ideas into video and audio production.
How to succeed in this course
Attend class, participate in class discussions and activities, review notes and vocabulary daily, meet deadlines, work with your student advisor, and complete class work and projects to the BEST of your ability. Each student will be required to help with the production of the Kerens Bobcat News broadcast weekly. Students will get to pick which part of the broadcast they want to work on. Students will not be required to travel. Students will learn how to use Adobe Premiere Pro and the goal is to be certified in this course by the end of the year.

Attendance
Students are expected to attend class every day.
Upon return of an absence, the student is responsible for obtaining all missing assignments and class notes from the teacher.
Classroom Participation
It is a requirement to participate in class discussion and group work. Grades will be a reflection of class participation. Students will often be assigned to work in a group that will be selected by the teacher. Students will be given their assignments/groups at the beginnings of each class period and expected to work quietly with their group members.
When you first enter the classroom
Students must immediately go to their assigned seats. Students are not allowed to wander around the classroom.
Have homework assignments ready to turn in, usually in Google Classroom or on their flash drives.
Begin daily Bell Ringer in Google Classroom as preparation for the day’s lesson.
Sign in and out
Students must sign in and out when leaving and re-entering the classroom during class time.
Academic Dishonesty
Any student caught cheating or copying will be given a “0” on the assignment, activity, or test. Any student allowing this will also receive a “0”. This grade cannot be made up and the assignment, activity or test cannot be redone.
Classroom Behavior
First offense is a verbal warning.
Second offense the student will be given a reflection sheet to complete. The teacher and student will conference about the repeated behavior. Parents will be contacted after class concerning the repeated behavior.
If the behavior happens a third time in the same class period, the student will be referred to the office concerning the offense.
Fighting, bullying and any other zero tolerance behaviors are automatic office referrals.
