Student Research Guide

Use this guide when looking up information

Search Better

  • Use Kiddle to search for kid-friendly results or use Google search filters if using Google

  • Use keywords when searching. For example, try “hurricane winds” instead of just “hurricanes”

  • Look up the meaning of words & phrases you want to know more about (see this guide for how)

  • Use ctrl+f to search for words in a site or article

Can You Trust It?

  • Ask the 5 W’s (who, what, when, where, & why)

  • If in doubt, look up facts on another site to see if it’s the same. See this guide for a good way to do that.

Keep Track of Your Info and Sources

  • Use a notes doc like this one

  • Write down or copy and paste the names of the websites that you get info from

  • Add your sources to the end of your writing or whatever it is you make (like a slideshow)
