Consequence Strategies are interventions staff will do after the occurrence of a behavior. These strategies include reinforcement of replacement and goal behavior and strategies to redirect problem behavior and minimize avoidance of sensory/automatic stimuli after the demonstration of problem behavior.
Contingent Reinforcement of Replacement Behavior: allow the student to avoid or escape sensory stimulation or automatic reinforcement following the demonstration of the replacement behavior
Contingent Reinforcement of Goal Behavior: allow the student to avoid or escape sensory stimulation or automatic reinforcement following the demonstration of the goal behavior
*Remember, the faster you provide the reinforcement following the demonstration of the replacement or desired behavior, the faster the connection will be made for the student that the replacement or desired behavior gets them what they want
Prompt Replacement Behavior: redirect at the first sign of problem behavior by prompting the student to demonstrate the replacement behavior
Least Reinforcing Scenario: when responding to problem behavior, consider how to intervene in the least reinforcing manner possible
