A plan of using UXD method(s)
I plan to utilize some of the methods and concepts behind the UXD lectures and readings we had this week to make my website more efficient and usable. The personas method stood out to me as a potentially impactful method. I believe that utilizing personas will help me see past some of my limitations that could steer me towards a bias for design with only my concerns in mind. Personas instead are a good way to be mindful of additional user types and their needs. I do think that this will positively impact the design of my final product. I really like the card sorting method, though it calls for more people and time than I probably have. It really does seem like a brilliant way to see how normal people would order things. This could be useful information to use when dealing with so many categories and pages as will be in the final project. I do not think I will be able to use this method but if I could I think it would really reveal unique results. Analytics could be a useful long-term tool that I could implement. Over time it would help me see things like what pages of the site are most viewed. Then with that information, I can edit formatting and presentation to be more conducive to further engagement if needed. A very useful tool but only most impactful over a large span of time. And a lot of UXD is about experimentation and seeing what works and not. Which will involve people, resources, and time, so for my project with the constraints it has I may not be able to fully utilize the full benefits of UXD. But, I can certainly take some concepts like personas to consider the needs of the user.
