International Thespian Society – Troupe 8248
Hilander Theatre is an active member of the International Thespian Society (ITS), Troupe 8248. This national honor organization recognizes students for outstanding work in theatre arts. Students become eligible for induction into the Society after completing work on two full productions and earning a minimum of 10 points, with each point representing 10 hours of work in theatre. Points are accumulated through participation in productions, events, technical work, and competitions, and are tracked throughout a student’s high school career.
After induction, students may continue to earn higher honors:
Honor Thespian: 60 total points (600 hours). Recognizes outstanding contributions to the ideals of the Society.
National Honor Thespian: 120 total points (1,200 hours). Awarded for distinguished work and exceptional commitment.
International Honor Thespian: 180 or more total points (1,800+ hours). Reserved for students who have demonstrated extraordinary dedication and exemplary work.
At 60 points, students also earn their Kelso High School theatre letter, a symbol of their long-term commitment and contribution to the arts.
Hilander Theatre students also have the opportunity to participate in:
Thespys (Thespian Individual Events) – A performance and technical theatre competition in January. Registration is due December 5.
Washington State Thespian Festival – A statewide festival in March featuring workshops, performances, and college audition opportunities. Registration is due December 19.
Both events have associated costs. Limited work studies are available for students who have a need for assistance; we are happy to discuss financial assistance as needed.
