History of the Trinity Bands

The Trinity Bands was founded in 2006 when Trinity Springs Middle and Trinity Meadows Intermediate Schools first opened in KISD. Dean Surface and Jennifer Stokes transferred from Hillwood Middle School (also in KISD) to the new campuses.

The first year . . .

A major music vendor that KISD had ordered almost all of our equipment from, went bankrupt right before school started. Both TMIS and TSMS felt the brunt of this bankruptcy in full force. We did not have school owned instruments or music stands until December of 2006.

Ms. Stokes and Mr. Surface had to be very creative and the students very patient. Keller HS loaned us approx. 40 folding stands we also borrowed instruments from all the high schools. At TMIS we had 80 students in band with only 4 trumpets! At TSMS we had 40 students that we divided into woodwinds, brass, and percussion classes. Twice a week we would take the percussion class from TSMS over to Central HS and practice on instruments (because we had none).

We did not go to U.I.L . the first year we were open, but we did however attend festivals and received superior ratings. By the end of the year we had received instruments and stands and were very ready for year 2 to begin!

That first year we developed a Vision and Goals for the band program. We are always updating that document and it can be found here:
