My name is Rachel Heiser, and I am the Associate Choir Director at Hillwood Middle School, as well as the Vox Show Choir Director! I am excited for auditions this year, and I know many other students are ready to prepare for it. All of the information you should need is found below. Starting next week, I will be passing out the Vox Contract that will need to be turned in on the first day of practice if your student makes the group.
WHEN? Thursday, September 3rd from 4:15-7pm
WHERE? HMS Choir Room/Library
Vocal Auditions:
Please prepare 30-60 seconds of a Disney, musical theater or pop song of your choice. Be sure to have the karaoke track ready to go, and make sure you have your song memorized.
(ex: Disney, Descendants, High School Musical, etc.)
Students will wait in the Library and be called down to the Choir Room to sing individually.
Students will check in at the computer, and tell the student monitor which song they are singing, and where to start the song. Be sure that the song is A KARAOKE OR INSTRUMENTAL TRACK. No guide vocals allowed. No acapella singing allowed - we want to hear if you can stay on pitch and in rhythm!
You will then slate and sing your song.
“Hi my name is Ms. Heiser, I am in 7th grade, and I will be singing How Far I’ll Go from Moana”
Dance Auditions:
After Vocal auditions, students will be put into groups of 6-8 to audition with the audition dance that should have been prepared beforehand.
Students will run through the dance once, then switch lines and run it again for the judges.
Please wear clothes you can move around in, and wear closed toed shoes! (Crocs, Birkenstocks, and slides are not allowed.)
After you are done with the dance audition, you may go home.

The 2026-2027 Vox roster will be revealed Friday after school. Please be on the lookout for an email from Ms. Heiser. Students that make Vox will be expected to attend the first rehearsal on Tuesday, September 8th at 7am in the Choir room!
There are THREE forms that need to be filled out. Please see down below:
The Vocal audition sign up will need to be filled out by the student outside of the Choir Room. Students will pick a 3 minute time slot that works for their schedule (please keep in mind they need to stay a bit after their vocal audition to complete the dance audition portion).
The Vox Information form needs to be filled out by a parent/guardian. This online form allows Ms. Heiser to have important information needed throughout the school year. Please click on this link and fill it out. https://forms.gle/uojgN3vpCaiPXgLi7
The Vox Contract needs to be filled out and turned in at the first practice on Sept 8th. It is a physical copy printed on purple paper, please read through it in its entirety.
If you make Vox for the year, there is a mandatory Vox You-Made-It Meeting on September 8th in the big gym at 6:30pm to celebrate your success!

Vox Show Choir is our prep show choir designed for singers who are ready to build their performance skills and prepare for the varsity level. The name Vox means “voice” in Latin, representing the power of every singer’s unique voice.
Auditions are held each September. Vox rehearses Monday mornings from 7:00–8:00 AM, with occasional Wednesday afternoon rehearsals when needed. Throughout the season, Vox attends the same competitions as Harmonics, giving students exciting opportunities to perform, grow, and support one another.
Members work with Ms. Heiser on vocal technique and musicianship while also learning dynamic choreography from Ms. Ashley. Vox is a fun, energetic group where students build confidence, develop strong performance skills, and create lasting friendships along the way.
