Keller ISD is excited to announce that we are a NWEA MAP-Assessment Screener-Aligned District, K-8, beginning with the 2020-2021 school year!
Universal screening in specific grade levels is a critical first step in identifying students who may be at risk of experiencing poor learning outcomes in the areas of reading and math. Universal screening assessments in are usually brief, and administered to all students within a grade level three times per year (Fall, Winter, and Spring) in grades Kindergarten through 8. Prekindergarten uses CLI Engage and screens three times per year.
Keller Independent School District has systems of academic and social-emotional support linked directly to the assessed needs of our students. This system, known as Multi-Tiered Systems of Support, provides all Keller ISD students with timely and targeted interventions based upon the results of universal screening tools in reading, and math and other informal assessments in social/emotional areas.
Universal screening helps school staff to determine which students may be academically or social/emotionally “at-risk" so that they may provide differentiated, appropriate instructional support for every student.
Universal screening assessments are brief in nature, are conducted three times per school year (in the fall, winter, and spring) and their measures consist of brief assessments focused on targeted skills (e.g., phonological awareness, computation) that are highly predictive of long-term academic success.
Students whose scores fall below a certain nationally-normed percentile rank are identified as possibly needing more specialized academic interventions. The use of universal screenings refines and strengthens our efforts to help all of our students be successful by allowing us to take positive and preventative measures as early as possible.
