Marching Band

"Marching band brings about memories that you would never get anywhere else. Marching Band becomes the family that you can't live without.  That's what it is."

The Stars Marching Band has a long history of outstanding musical performance and accolades, whether it is on the field, in the stands, or marching in a parade. Each year the band completes a two week intensive summer camp in preparation for the marching season. Performances in the fall include UNK Band Day Parade, Bearcat Marching Festival, Columbus Marching Competition, Minden Bandfest Parade & Field Show Competition, NSBA State Marching Competition, and Harvest of Harmony.  Past ratings and awards include Superiors in field show, Parade, and 1st thru 3rd place ratings in various parades. The Colorguard and Drumline also have a history of Superior ratings at the NSBA State Marching Competition.

The band has a great deal of pride when they wear the Stars Marching uniform. The uniforms are custom altered and fitted each season to fit each musician according to the correct standards. The hats are a reflection of the Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corp style hats, and have been a long standing tradition at Kearney Catholic School. The bands' parade style of march is also quite unique. It is a high step style of march which has been done at Kearney Catholic since 1961. However, field show competitions the band utilizes the class "roll stepping" march style.

Each section of the band must work dilgently on memorization of music, drill, and excellent fundamentals of marching. Learning the music is only the beginning process of a superior band. The Stars musicians know that the drill formations, spacing, horn carriage, and upper body placement are vital in making a show or parade performance outstanding. Everything the band does is with attention to detail kept at the forefront.  With the assistance of the Leadership Team, these small details can be worked towards perfecting. Our student leaders within each section, stemming from Drum Majors, Seniors, and into underclassmen leaders; are the formula for great team work and comaraderie within the band. The product of the Leadership Team's positive influence, faith, and guidance can be witnessed at any performance.

Every three years the Marching Band travels to a destination. In the past, they have performed in Chicago, New York City, Hawaii (2019) and most recently Florida (2023). The Stars Band is comprised of students in grades 7th-12th. They have a passion for hard work, dedication and commitment, and building lasting relationships and memories with their peers in the band.
