The name of this organization will be LEHS National Senior Beta Club, also known as LEHS Beta Club.
This National Senior Beta club is an integral part of the central organization of National Senior Beta Club, and shall be governed by the policies laid down in the national constitution of the central organization of National Senior Beta. Its motto, colors, creed, and social insignia will be those of the national organization of National Senior Beta.
The purpose of this organization is the promotion of academic achievement, character, leadership, and service at Lugoff-Elgin High School.
The membership of this organization will be made up among students in 10th-12th grades at Lugoff-Elgin High School who, because of their credible achievement, worthy character, and commendable attitude, have been approved for membership by Ms. Carson McCallum, Lugoff-Elgin High School faculty advisor, and Mr. Corey Wright, the principal of Lugoff-Elgin High School; provided, of course, that these students meet the requirements as set forth in the bylaws of this organization.
The officers of this National Senior Beta club will be President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, Reporter, and Historian.
The duties of the President will be to preside at the meetings, setting the tone for club activities through leadership, appoint the committees of the club, represent the organization when necessary, and to administer the policies as laid down in the constitution and bylaws.
The duties of the Vice President will be to preside at meetings when the president is absent or incapacitated to perform the duties of the oce, and to assist in administering the affairs of the club, such as serving on committees.
The duties of the Secretary will be to keep the records of membership, record the minutes of the meetings, and to carry on the necessary club correspondence.
The duties of the Treasurer will be to keep a record of all financial matters pertaining to the local club, collect and preserve the club’s funds, and pay out of the club’s funds to meet the financial obligations of the club.
The duties of the Reporter will be to maintain the club’s website, update social media and inform the school and community of what happening in the club.
The duties of the Historian will be to update the calendar, create a digital or physical album of all Beta Club activities and manage the submission of member’s service hours.
The National Senior Beta club committees will be announced and appointed at the discretion of the President. Potential committees could include: Program, Events, Service, and Social Outreach.
The duty of the Program Committee will be to arrange for the business and social meetings of the club and to designate time/place of the meetings, as provided for in the bylaws.
The duty of the Events Committee will be to look after the entertainment features of the social meetings of the club—such as decorations, refreshments, and special features of entertainment.
The duty of the Service Committee will be to arrange and plan all school and community service projects throughout the year.
The duty of the Social Outreach Committee will be to arrange for publicity of any activities or special features of club operations or any of its members in local and state newspapers, on radio, television, and social media.
In addition to these four standing committees, the President may appoint special committees to attend to and report upon any specific matter that it may become necessary for this club to consider.
Regular meetings will be held at such times and places as designated in the bylaws.
Special meetings may be called by the President after consultation with and the approval of the faculty sponsor of the club.
Meetings will be announced with at least one weeks notice via Remind and the school Beta Club Bulletin Board.
Besides endeavoring at all times to be of service to Lugoff-Elgin High School and its students by upholding high standards of honesty and good citizenship, this National Senior Beta club shall—after consultation with and upon the approval of the principal of the school—undertake some worthwhile service projects.
The constitution of this National Senior Beta club may be amended by a majority vote of the membership, provided such proposed amendment is placed before the club at a previous meeting.
The time, day, and place of meetings of National Senior Beta club will be decided upon only after consultation with, and upon the approval of, the principal of Lugoff-Elgin High School, Mr. Corey Wright.
National Senior Beta club meetings occur in Room 618 or other place as permitted.
The meetings will occur on a monthly to bi-monthly basis at the discretion of the Beta Club cabinet.
A quorum of this organization shall be constituted by a majority of the membership. No action may be taken which is binding upon the membership unless a quorum is present. However, certain matters—such as a discussion of means of taking in new members, the presentation of a program, etc.—may be carried on at a regular or special meeting without a quorum being present.
Standards of membership in the Lugoff-Elgin High School National Senior Beta club must conform to the general features as laid down in the National Constitution, and in all cases must be approved by the principal of the school.
The grade levels from which members may be drawn are 10th, 11th, and 12th grade.
The LEHS Club admits only 10th-12th grade students who are at or above grade level.
The academic requirements for membership in the National Senior Beta club is maintaining a 3.5 GPA or higher.
New members must participate in the induction ceremony.
Members pay annual dues and SENIORS pay an additional fee for the stoll to wear at graduation.
Members complete a service project/hours (15 per semester, 30 for the year for membership requirement; 50 service hours for the year is recommended).
The induction of new members into this National Beta Senior club will be one of dignity appropriate to the ideals of the organization. Any pre-induction initiation activity must be submitted to and approved by the principal of Lugoff-Elgin High School. It must not be of a nature to cause physical pain or mental embarrassment to the initiate.
A member of this National Beta Senior Beta club may be put on probation or dropped from membership for the following reasons:
If he/she is absent without a justifiable reason from 2 regular consecutive meetings.
If his/her academic record falls below a 3.5 GPA for over a semester.
If he/she fails to attain at least 30 service hours for the academic year without a justifiable reason.
If his/her character and behavior record demonstrates write-ups, school-based punishment, or expulsion.
If and when a member is put on probation, they have the opportunity to be added back on the active school roster. If and when a member is dropped from membership, a record of this action shall be relayed to the National Office of National Senior Beta immediately.
National Beta is for qualifying students in grades 4-12. There is a $32 national fee for each division.
The local dues of this club of National Senior Beta shall be $3 (one time). Local dues are used for services for club members and assisting in the promotion of events or fundraisers. The cost of local membership in the club will be kept at an absolute minimum, so that no worthy student is unable to become a member for financial reasons.
The bylaws of this National Senior Beta club may be amended by a majority vote of the membership, provided such proposed amendment is placed before the club at a previous meeting.
