FAQ

Do I need Physical Therapy or wellness?

Katharine provides both Physical Therapy and Pilates wellness sessions. Physical Therapy is appropriate for acute medical concerns and wellness sessions are appropriate for prevention and maintenance of pain free movement. Reach out to Katharine if you are unsure what is most appropriate for you.

What is a session like?

Whatever treatment you choose, you will receive  individualized care one-on-one with Katharine throughout your entire 50-55 minute appointment. In Physical Therapy treatment, you will have homework that may include intentional changes to your posture, walking pattern, sleep position, transitional movements, as well as a targeted exercise prescription. For wellness Pilates, you will be challenged to move with controlled strength and learn how to safely progress toward your movement goals.

What is Pelvic Health Physical Therapy?

Pelvic Health Physical Therapy addresses the pelvic floor muscles and their role in global movement and health. These muscles are essential stabilizers of the pelvis and support the contents of the pelvis. They are important in maintaining continence of bowel and bladder, postural support to prevent hip, knee and low back pain, as well as essential in sexual function. Pelvic Physical Therapy may address  scar tissue or adhesions restricting motion, painful or tender areas, as well as muscle dysfunctions such as weakness, poor coordination or difficulty with relaxation. Internal pelvic floor therapy consists of a gloved one finger digital exam. An internal assessment can provide important information about pelvic floor muscle function and facilitate identifying the best plan of care.

Do I need a referral?

Illinois is a direct access state for Physical Therapy. With the exception of Medicare, a physician referral is not required for the evaluation. If you have a referral please bring it with you.

What insurance, if any, is accepted?
