Katharine Coombes, PT, DPT


Dr. Katharine Coombes is a Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT), mom of two girls, and enjoys yoga, Pilates, and running. She is raising her family in the NorthShore and owns her own practice in Kenilworth Illinois.


Katharine graduated from Northwestern University’s DPT program in the Feinberg School of Medicine and has specialized in treatment of adolescent idiopathic onset scoliosis, young adults and degenerative scoliosis using the Schroth method certified through ISST


Mindful movement that integrates diaphragmatic breathing to connect posture and strength is one of Katharine's specialties. She is also expert in treatment of pelvic floor conditions and abdominal rehab post partum. Common conditions treated include pelvic and coccygeal pain, urinary stress and urge incontinence, constipation, and dyspareunia, as well as pregnancy and post pregnancy concerns, including diastasis rectus abdominus and return to activity. 

 

Katharine believes moving with ease and strength cultivates wellbeing. Her Physical Therapy philosophy is grounded in the movement system approach. Katharine will not only address your acute concern, but also, your habitual  movement patterns and postures that create inefficiency may generate pain. You will learn how  to prevent recurrence and be empowered to consciously move in ways that promote your strength and wellness.


Practicing yoga and Pilates for over 20 years, Katharine is a Balanced Body certified Pilates instructor. Pilates reformer, tower, and chair equiptment are utilized in her private studio Pilates sessions. Katharine incorporates the evidence-based benefits of mindfulness and diaphragmatic breathing and works with her clients to establish a transformative and comprehensive treatment plan. 


Katharine is a member of the APTA Academy of Pelvic Health and Illinois Physical Therapy Association.
