Friendship, Sportsmanship, and Teamwork— Layup Competitions

By: Serena, Chloe, Charity

Join us for an epic layup competition on week 13! Representing their homerooms, these talented students will not only learn the art of teamwork and sportsmanship but also discover the true meaning of courage. Don't miss this incredible opportunity to witness the future stars of the court in action.

Learning basketball is enjoyable and promotes friendship, sportsmanship and teamwork. Grade 5 students also learn to develop courage and patience. Ms. Coles, a P.E. teacher, believes that basketball is a great way to improve students’ fitness skills and social skills. Training for layup competitions helps students relax from the pressure of homework and tests. Additionally, Mr. Smith, another P.E teacher, always says, “ If you lose, be a good loser. If you win, be a good winner.” This quote reminds students to accept their loss graciously or to avoid excessive pride in victory.

A Promise to Go Home: A Fundraising Event

By: Liz Liu and Michael Shen

We're thrilled to share exciting news about our school community! In support of South-Link Hospital and its life-saving services, all KCIS students united for a November fundraising event. “My team and I walked up to random people on the streets, explaining where we're from and why we needed donations,” shared a G5 student. “This was my third year fundraising. I found that talent shows or giving small gifts like balloons to pedestrians could attract their attention,” said a G6 student. Regardless of the method, there's one common thread: fearlessness.

Lilia Lee, the former parental representative, expressed, “When our students walked into crowds, they became braver, facing rejection, and approaching the next person to try again.” We hope our efforts will have a positive impact on Dr. Hsu and the hospital he’s envisaged building for people in remote areas in Taitung.
