Jennifer Somers, CPC, CPPM

Founder and Principal Consultant

Jennifer founded Kaysome Billing in 2006 with a mission to bridge the gap between complex medical coding and practice profitability. As a Certified Professional Coder (CPC) and Certified Physician Practice Manager (CPPM), Jennifer brings over two decades of high-level expertise for private practices in multiple states.

What sets Jennifer apart is her "boots on the ground" approach. While many billing companies remain distant, Jennifer is deeply hands-on, often traveling on-site to assist and train clients. She specializes in transforming struggling offices into thriving, efficient businesses by optimizing revenue cycles and refining operational flow.

Jennifer remains the central bridge for the company, maintaining daily contact between staff and clients to ensure every account receives personalized attention. As the lead educator at Kaysome, she continuously trains all staff and personally oversees onboarding, ensuring her high standards of accuracy and communication are met at every level.

Originally from New York, Jennifer now leads the company from Georgia alongside her husband, Michael and her daughter Kaylee. Her passion for solving the "unsolvable" claim and her commitment to domestic, person-to-person service remain the heartbeat of Kaysome Billing.

Michael Somers

Director of Finance & Operations

Originally from Florida, Michael earned his degree in Finance from the University of Florida, where he also competed as an athlete on the Gator baseball team. His background in finance and management provided a seamless transition into the medical billing industry. Following the expansion of Kaysome, Michael and Jennifer relocated to Georgia, where they live with their daughter, Kaylee.

As the Director of Finance & Operations, Michael is the architect of Kaysome’s internal stability. He oversees all Accounts Payable and Receivable, ensuring the company’s financial operations remain robust and efficient. Beyond high-level strategy, Michael remains hands-on in claims processing and payment posting, ensuring that accuracy and timeliness are never compromised.

Michael’s leadership is pivotal in maintaining the financial health of the firm. He oversees daily operations ensuring the team remains focused and efficient while Jennifer is on-site with clients. His commitment to precision allows the team and the clients to operate with total confidence, knowing the "behind-the-scenes" of their business is in expert hands.

Scott Conway

Billing Manager

Scott brings a lifetime of leadership and discipline to his professional work, shaped largely by his career in baseball. A former first baseman for Kennesaw State University and a minor league player for the Florida Marlins organization, Scott’s athletic background instilled the work ethic and attention to detail that define his career today. 

With a diverse professional history spanning asset evaluation, marketing, and fine dining management, Scott offers a well-rounded business perspective. Since 2025, he is applying his expertise in leadership and problem-solving to insurance billing, where he prioritizes accuracy, accountability, and clear communication. Scotts strong management for seamless operations, communication and meticulous attention to detail made him an ideal choice to add to the Kaysome team.

Scott is originally from NJ, but lives in the Atlanta area with his wife, Lydia, and their two children. He remains active in the baseball community coaching his son’s travel team. A proud supporter of all Philadelphia sports, Scott and his family return to Ocean City, NJ, every summer to enjoy the boardwalk with friends and family.

Emily Ortiz

Claims Specialist

Emily joined the Kaysome team in 2017 after completing her professional billing and coding externship with the company. Her exceptional organizational skills and natural talent for troubleshooting complex claims quickly distinguished her as an integral member of the team.

As a Claims Specialist, Emily’s role has continuously expanded due to her ability to adapt to the evolving healthcare landscape. She plays a crucial role in streamlining processes and resolving billing issues with high efficiency. Additionally, Emily is fluent in Spanish, serving as a vital resource for our Spanish-speaking clients and ensuring clear, accurate communication across all demographics.

Based in South Florida, Emily lives with her husband and two children. Her dedication to accuracy and her bilingual expertise make her an invaluable asset to both the Kaysome team and the clients.

Nancy Raia

Claims Specialist

Nancy is a seasoned professional with deep roots in surgical office management. Having worked closely with Jennifer years ago in New York, Nancy brings a long-standing foundation of trust and professional synergy to the Kaysome team. In 2023, her transition back into the workforce was a natural progression, reuniting her with a leadership team that values her meticulous approach to complex billing.

As a Claims Specialist, Nancy focuses on the critical task of resolving unpaid claims. Her surgical background gives her a unique advantage in navigating the nuances of medical documentation and payer requirements. Nancy’s sharp attention to detail and tenacity are essential to our "behind-the-scenes" success, ensuring that no claim is left unaddressed.

Nancy is a proud mother of four, and her ability to manage complex schedules and high-priority tasks in her personal life translates seamlessly into the organizational excellence she brings to Kaysome every day.

Laura Rosales Castillo

Claims Specialist

Laura brings a strong foundation in business and a professional background in logistics to her role as a Claims Specialist. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business and is a Certified Professional Coder (CPC) through AAPC, allowing her to approach claims management with both operational insight and technical precision.

In her role, Laura is responsible for researching claim denials, resolving payer issues, and ensuring accurate, timely reimbursement for client accounts. She is particularly drawn to the forensic side of claims work—digging into discrepancies, tracing issues to their root cause, and piecing together complex details to achieve resolution. Her logistics experience has equipped her with exceptional organizational skills and the ability to manage complex workflows while meeting strict deadlines. Known for her attention to detail and persistence, she takes a proactive approach to identifying trends, preventing recurring issues, and supporting long-term revenue stability for the practices she serves.

Laura spent 13 years living in Georgia before relocating to Missouri, where she now resides with her family. Outside of the office, she enjoys staying active through working out, attending live concerts, and spending quality time with loved ones. She is also a proud mom of two teenage daughters who keep life fast-paced, entertaining, and full of new perspectives.

Emily Fricks

Claims Specialist

A native of Atlanta, Georgia, Emily graduated from Georgia State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality. After 15 years in the high-paced restaurant industry, she transitioned her expertise into medical billing and coding. This background in hospitality provided Emily with a unique foundation of discipline, accountability, and a "people-first" philosophy that she brings to every client account.

As a Claims Specialist, Emily’s work is driven by a genuine desire to help others. Her years of managing complex service environments prepared her well for the precision required in claims management, where her strong work ethic and attention to detail ensure that every practice receives the support they deserve.

Outside of the office, Emily is a true Disney enthusiast; her favorite "magical moment" was getting engaged at the Happiest Place on Earth. She also enjoys traveling to new destinations and attending live concerts.

Abby Richardson

Claims Specialist

Abby is a highly meticulous professional known for her ability to manage complex schedules and high-priority accounts with total accuracy. As a Claims Specialist, she utilizes her strong analytical skills to identify the root causes of billing challenges and implement sustainable, effective solutions for our clients.

An exceptional communicator, Abby serves as a key bridge between practices and payers, ensuring that all interactions are professional, concise, and results-oriented. Beyond her technical expertise, Abby is a cornerstone of the Kaysome team culture; as our "Honorary Office Dog Mom," she plays a significant role in maintaining high team morale and a supportive work environment.

Originally from Brunswick, Georgia, Abby now resides in Atlanta with her fiancé and their dog, Diesel. Outside of the office, she is a talented trombone player and finds creative balance through crocheting and building intricate Lego models.

Lexy Moreno

Claims Specialist

Originally from California, Lexy relocated to Georgia in 2009, where she has built her career and her life as a devoted mother of three. Her role as a parent has shaped her patience, organization, and strong sense of responsibility—qualities she brings into her work each day. Lexy is known for her reliability, attention to detail, and genuine commitment to supporting clients throughout the claims process.

As a Claims Specialist, Lexy thrives in fast-paced environments and takes pride in problem-solving, accuracy, and follow-through. She values clear communication and consistency, ensuring each account is handled with care and professionalism.

Outside of the office, Lexy is a lifelong Los Angeles Dodgers fan and spends much of her free time at the baseball field supporting her kids as they play the sport she loves. Her appreciation for teamwork, perseverance, and showing up—on and off the field—reflects the values she brings to both her work and family life.

Meron Mekonnen

Claims Specialist

Originally born in Ethiopia and relocating to the United States at just 12 years old, Meron learned early on how to adapt and grow through change. Her time at a boarding school helped cultivate her independence and discipline.

With more than 20 years in the hospitality industry, Meron developed a reputation for professionalism, dependability and grace under pressure. She mastered the art of customer service and problem-solving in fast-paced environments. Her entrepreneurial drive led her to establish and run her own catering business for several years, where she managed operations, built client relationships and delivered exceptional service with pride and precision.

Today, Meron channels her diverse background into her role as a medical billing claims specialist, concentrating on personal injury cases and insurance verification. She approaches her work with accuracy, persistence and accountability, ensuring that every claim is handled thoroughly and efficiently. 

As a devoted and dedicated mother of one, she has built her life around creating opportunity and stability. Motherhood is the heart of her motivation, inspiring her to push forward with strength and determination in every season of life. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her daughter, exploring new coffee shops and finding balance through creative hobbies.
