Oli Aloha No Nānākuli

Composed by Kalehua Krug, this mele aloha is intended to express one’s love for Nānākuli. This mele speaks of the 5 pu‘u or hills that make up Nānākuli’s beloved mountain range. The 1^st pu‘u is Haleakalā or Heleakalā known to be where the demi god Maui snared the sun. The 2^nd pu’u is Palikea, the highest peak located in the center of the sierra, captures the Nāulu or sudden showers that bring life to the land. The 3^rd pu’u is Maunakapu, where daybreak first emerges. The 4^th and 5^th pu’u are Manawahua and Piliokahe, which both share the boundaries that divide the Wai‘anae and ‘Ewa district.
