Composed by Kalehua Krug, this mele aloha is intended to express one’s love for Nānākuli. This mele speaks of the 5 pu‘u or hills that make up Nānākuli’s beloved mountain range. The 1st pu‘u is Haleakalā or Heleakalā known to be where the demi god Maui snared the sun. The 2nd pu’u is Palikea, the highest peak located in the center of the sierra, captures the Nāulu or sudden showers that bring life to the land. The 3rd pu’u is Maunakapu, where daybreak first emerges. The 4th and 5th pu’u are Manawahua and Piliokahe, which both share the boundaries that divide the Wai‘anae and ‘Ewa district.
