This mele kula or alma mater embodies the mission and vision of Ka Waihona o Ka Na‘auao Charter School. Nānākuli is near the southern end of the Waiʻanae mountain and is home to one of the oldest Hawaiian Home Land Divisions established through the Native Hawaiian Homes Commission Act of 1921 by Prince Jonah Kūhiō Kalanianaʻole. Kaiāulu is the trade-winds of the Wai’anae region as well as a community and neighborhood. Puʻuheleakalā meaning where the sun is snared. In the 2nd pauku or verse, in the second line, “I ke onaona o nā Hawaiʻi”, also can be interpreted to the beauty of plants and people. This poetic description displays the wealth of the land and its people.
