The Hawaiian Kingdom's national anthem, entitled "Hawai'i Pono'i," was originally composed by King Lunalilo and later proclaimed by his successor, King David Kalākaua in 1876. This mele gives honor to King Kamehameha I, founder of the Hawaiian Kingdom in 1810. The music was arranged by Captain Henry Berger, Bandmaster of the Royal Hawaiian Band.
For the purpose of honoring our ali'i, Ka Waihona o Ka Na'auao will be embracing the original lyrics from King Lunanilo with the great ambition of King Kalākaua, all set to the entrancing melody by Captain Henry Berger.
