PARENT TESTIMONIALS:
Choir has had a wonderful impact on [my child's] life since she started. It’s helped her grow in confidence, especially when speaking or performing in front of others. She’s learned the value of teamwork and how important it is to listen and collaborate. Singing in choir also gives her a creative outlet she truly enjoys expressing herself through music. Most importantly, it’s something she looks forward to; it brings her joy, and she feels proud to be part of something bigger than herself.

We’ve seen [our child] become more focused, positive, and connected with her peers because of choir.

Choir has nurtured [our child's] love of music. He wakes up singing, sometimes in his opera-type voice and even performing with his little sister for fun. Being part of choir since 6th grade has been a wonderful influence on his life

My student is now in 8th grade and has done choir since fifth grade she has always loved singing but since then I have seen her grow in many other ways then her voice. She has grown mentally and physically. whenever she comes home she always tells me how much fun she had in choir. She says " Choir is like another home to me it's where my family is and will always be."

I was planning on emailing you both ... to let you know how much our family enjoyed the concert. My husband and I, along with all of our siblings, grew up as band kids so we have lots of experience with junior high and high school band concerts but not choir and last night was such a treat! All of the groups performed beautifully, I really enjoyed the performances. It is clear that you both have a true love for what you do. [My child] is loving being part of the choir, it sounds like such a highlight of her day. She told me last night when we were heading to the car that she is so thankful you guys helped make this fit into her schedule because she loves it and loved being on stage with the girls. Your efforts do not go unnoticed!

My daughter is a 7th grader on the volleyball team and in both choir and band this year. I wanted to extend a tremendous thank you to Mrs. Guess, Coach Byrd, and the rest of the choir and athletics staff who worked [at the Fall Concert] to help several of the girls be able to attend both their volleyball games and their choir concert. I cannot tell you how much it meant to [my child] and to our family that she was able to hold her commitments to both of these groups. She has had the most wonderful experience so far in both fine arts and athletics at WoodCreek and it is a huge testament to the support from the staff and the administrators. I know that making accommodations like that can be challenging and the easiest thing to do is tell the kids they have to make a choice but it is really encouraging to see our school partner between departments to support students with varied interests. My husband and I are big believers in letting our kids experience as many things as they can during these years of their lives and I know that not every school would be so supportive of that mentality. [My Child] is thriving this year in seventh grade and I give a lot of that credit to her time in band, choir, and athletics with fantastic educators who care about and support their students.
I just wanted to let you all know how much we appreciate your efforts throughout the year but especially last night. [My child] was beaming last night that she was able to play volleyball and sing with the choir and feel fully supported in both. We appreciate you all! Thank you for providing these opportunities and for playing such a huge role in [my child's] year!

We knew our son would love music before he was born. Not too many people know this about our son, but our son before he was born loved to move to the beat of the music. From brain bleeds to heart issues to Cerebral Palsy diagnoses, our son has had to fight to live and persevere. As he got older; we loved to watch him in-front of the tv singing along to songs. He would try and sing anything, but he loved Luke Bryan’s music the most. He still to this day loves Luke Bryan music. From elementary to junior high choir, choir has taught our son to come out of his shell. Choir has brought out a happy, positive child. This journey through all of the ups and downs has brought forth the brave young man that we have today. Choir has given him a stronger base than he has ever had. As Dr Seuss’s says,” And will you succeed? Yes! You will, indeed! 98 and 3/4 percent guaranteed. With choir being a part of our sons life, it will allow him to succeed at any and all things that he puts his heart into; and we couldn’t be more proud to be your parents!! --8th grade choir parent

In so many different ways, my children became better humans through taking choir. Choir is so much more than singing - it’s a safe place where children can be authentic, it’s a community of students who learn not just a love of the arts, but respect, dignity and joy both for themselves and for others. The choir directors are extraordinary selfless individuals who model the exact behaviors I hope my children will grow up to emulate.

Yes I really think that choir has a positive influence on my child's life. She comes home saying how much fun she had, and the stories, and funny
thing's, and I love to see her happy.
--
Choir made her so happy and she felt like she was in a family and she belonged to sing. She has been singing since she was little and she just loves choir.
--
Choir helps tremendously with the understanding of fractions and patterns. If you think about it, choir takes the math and applies it to create beautiful melodies! More importantly. choir helps you grow as a person. Just like in math, you HAVE to practice. You must really pay attention to what others are saying (singing) in order to make something incredible. How simple is it to listen to others yet bring so much joy to all? -Ms. Tadlock, WCJH Math Teacher

My daughter is a junior in high school this year-it is her sixth year of choir. She fully intends to be a seven year choir student. She began her choir journey as a sixth grader at WCJH. I cannot say enough about how wonderful the choir program at WCJH is for students. A teacher can make or break how a student feels about a class. Mrs. Guess has such a love for her students, but also high expectations. She expects them to be not just good choir students, but also good people. Junior high is a tough time for all students-even the ones who look like they have it all together. Mrs. Guess has a way of making them feel like a part of something, making them feel loved and important. My daughter always said choir felt like a family. My daughter gained confidence in her time at WCJH. She went from a shy 6th grader who didn't want to do solo contest to a confident musician who sang the National Anthem at a State Cattle Show. In all of this I have not mentioned the teaching of music. Of course, Mrs. Guess is very good at what she does. My daughter's music skills grew very much in her time at WCJH. But it's about so much more. This choir program takes the time to build relationships with the students. As a parent this is the first most important thing to me in a teacher or program. -Former WCJH Choir Parent

Initially choir was our daughter’s second option when entering WCJH, with theatre being her first choice. When she didn’t get into theatre, she was very disappointed. However, the warmth and the connections provided to her by her WCJH Choir directors and the community that was built within the program, was exactly what she needed to find her way in becoming exactly who she was meant to be!

Now as a senior in high school, she has continued with choir and is a part of the vocal ensemble. She also performs with the KHS theatre in a variety of roles which includes singing in musicals as well as serving as a vocal coach to her peers. She has been able to combine the skills she has learned to grow and mature as a performer and we could not be more thankful for her amazing start!

Both my son and daughter went through 3 years of Woodcreek Choir with Mrs. Guess. My son graduated as a 7 year singer in 2023 & my daughter is a 7 year singer currently in her senior year. Choir in junior high was my son's favorite class, it was his best part of every day. Choir taught him self-confidence, leadership, perseverance and helped him make great friends. My daughter loves making music with her friends and cherishes the friends she's made through choir. We all love Mrs. Guess!
STUDENT TESTIMONIALS:
Choir is something I truly love because it has changed my life in such a good way . When I sing, I feel calm, happy, and more like myself. Before choir , I was more shy, but now I feel braver and more confident using my voice. Being in choir has also showed me how powerful it is when people work together to create such a beautiful sound . I have made great friends and found something that helps me when I feel stressed or overwhelmed . Choir isn’t just a class to me, it is a place where I feel strong, supported, and proud of who I am becoming . I may have joined choir to sing, but I stayed because the choir directors helped me grow into something braver than I ever thought I could be. Thank you for helping me find my voice, not just in music, but in life. Years from now, I may forget the notes we sang, but I will never forget how choir made me feel . Choir didn’t just build our voices it build our confidence and our hearts .Choir truly is my home away from home. I will carry the lessons I learned in choir for the rest of my life, and I hope the choir directors know that the difference they’ve made in me is something I will never ever forget.

It has connected me to the kids in my new school. I love to sing along with them. I am looking forward to the all choir events - concerts, ice-cream socials, spirit nights!

It has helped me mentally and physically. When I first moved to WCJH, I was down. Mrs. Guess realized that I was mentally down, and she came to my rescue as a teacher and as one of God's children and gave me the helping hand I needed. When she said, " It's going to be alright," I doubted her because it was the middle of the year and I grew up with people in the past. I did not feel the same with WCJH until I was given the right confidence at the wrong time it made me think, " can I do this?" and thank Mrs.Guess she was right I look back at the time when i first came to WCJH and at the end of the year I am a whole new person.I thank the WCJH choir program for helping me grow. I wish us the best moving forward and GO TIMBERWOLVES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

FORMER STUDENT TESTIMONIALS:
I used to get bullied for not speaking English and I learned that music was a universal language used by everyone, it’s helped me communicate and create bonds with the people I now call my best friends. --11th grader (4 year singer)
At first I joined choir because my sisters were in it, but choir has grown on me tremendously. It’s been a place I’ve felt safe and welcomed my entire life and I can just be me. There’s never overwhelming pressure and it’s such a getaway from everything else I have to do in life. Choir has been such a saving grace for me. -- @KHS 6 year Choir member
Choir has allowed me to be who I am without trying to hide it. Not to mention meeting friends that I have kept all the way up to senior year(this year) . You learn skills that you might not be taught in the real world and allow you to grow more as a human.--12th grader (7 year singer)
[Choir has] allowed me to build relationships and express myself that i wouldn’t have the chance to in any other class .

I have made so many close friends in choir, and I always feel welcome. - @KHS 7 year choir member
Choir is my everything. It is where i have made basically all of my friends and amazing memories. I've been able to go to All-State and accomplish amazing things, thing i don't even know if i could compare to if I hadn't chosen this path. Stay in choir please. It will nothing but the best for you, even if you don't want to do music as an adult. It teaches hard skills like responsibility and time management and problem solving so naturally that when you go to college or get a job, you will soar with success. - @KHS 7 year choir member
I joined choir in sixth grade just for fun. I was a kid obsessed with musicals who liked fifth grade choir enough to give choir in middle school a shot. Choir was supposed to be nothing more than a fine arts credit, but it became so much more than that. The Wood Creek Junior High choir program welcomed all new students with open, loving arms, and the wonderful directors created a safe environment for everyone to be themselves. With a safe space like that, it wasn’t long before choir became my home base in the mist of the crazy school days. I had a place I could laugh, work hard, and learn more about singing, something I was quickly becoming more and more passionate about. I’m going to receive my seven year singer award next school year. I have put so much time, sweat, and tears into choir, but I don’t regret any of it because of the joy I’ve found from getting to create beautiful music with beautiful human beings. - @KHS 6 year choir member
Wow, where do I even start! Choir has positively influenced my life in so many ways. It gave me a safe space to go to every day to be myself while also becoming a better musician. In choir, you don’t have to worry about anything else that’s going on in your life you just get the opportunity to put it all aside and do what you love to do, sing. While in WCJH Choir, I realized that I wanted to be a 7 year singer and continue my choir career into high school. I am now a 7 year singer and it has the been the greatest joy. I have met so many great people and have had the best choir directors that make the experience so much fun. I am so beyond grateful for Mrs. Guess and the WCJH choir program. Choir has truly changed my life for the better. - @KHS 7 year choir member
Choir has always been a safe spot for me even though I rarely talked to others, I knew that I could be myself in that choir room. The community has always been so respectful, considerate, and appreciative of me which has influenced me to stay in choir this long, originally choir wasn’t anywhere near my first choice but the community and generosity I experienced in the choir program encouraged me to stay.
-@KHS 5 year choir member
Choir has affected my life positively by giving me friends and a community that feels like a family and I know that they will stay in my life forever, it has also taught me focus, and determination so that I may learn songs I never thought I could.
-@KHS 7 year choir member
Choir has truly shaped me as a musician, an artist and a person. I have made friends within my choir communities that have taught me so much. Being apart of such an uplifting community that makes music together has truly been the highlight of the last six years. The music, the directors and the fun you have along the way, truly is what makes this musical journey one worth remembering.

Choir has always been a big part of my life. Singing in the WoodCreek choir specifically, however, showed me how empowering it is to sing in a choir and be led by a director who is passionate about music. I think my love for music only kept growing since middle school and i’m forever grateful I got the opportunity to sing with a wonderful choir. - @KHS Choir 6 year choir member
