Brenden Steber is in his twenty-eighth year of teaching, the nineteenth as Director of Bands at Beck Junior High. Previously, Mr. Steber taught at Cinco Ranch Junior High in Katy ISD and Cook Middle School in Cy-Fair ISD.
Under Mr. Steber's leadership, the Beck Junior High Band has consistently earned Sweepstakes awards at UIL Concert and Sight-Reading evaluations, and has advanced to the Area level of the TMEA Honor Band competition. Mr. Steber's bands have been recognized as a Commended Winner of the Mark of Excellence Wind Band Honors Project. Students in the Beck Band have been successful at All-Region Band auditions and Solo and Ensemble competitions.
Mr. Steber is a graduate of the University of Houston, where he studied music education with Mr. Eddie Green and trumpet with Mr. James Austin. His professional affiliations include the Texas Music Educators Association and the Texas Bandmasters Association.
In his spare time, Mr. Steber collaborates with Texas composer Gabriel Musella, and arranges music for concert band, small ensemble and marching band.
Mr. Steber is married to Susan Steber, Director of Bands at Beckendorff Junior High in Katy ISD. They have a son, Joseph, who is a graduate of Cinco Ranch High School and is studying trombone performance at Baylor University.
Taffy Singletary has been at Beck Junior High since January 2021 and is in her eighteenth year of teaching. Prior to coming to Beck, Mrs. Singletary taught music in Abqaiq, Saudi Arabia, where she lived with her family. In addition to teaching in the schools, Mrs. Singletary has spent many years teaching private flute and performing across Texas since graduating university in 1998.
Mrs. Singletary is a graduate of Texas Tech University, where she studied music education with James Sudduth, Keith Bearden, and Susan Brumfield. She studied flute with Margaret Redcay. Her professional affiliations include the Texas Music Educators Association, the Texas Bandmasters Association, and the National Flute Association.
In her spare time, Mrs. Singletary enjoys performing with the Shimmer Flute Choir and the Lone Star Symphonic Band. She also enjoys crochet, reading, puzzles, and quilting. The Singletary family loves to travel whenever possible.
Mrs. Singletary is married to her husband, Brian, who is a chemical engineer. They have three children and two dogs.
