Technology Plan Update for 2017/2018 School Year

July 13th, 2017

The mission of the 1:1 (one student having their own device) program at Cardinal Stritch Catholic High School and Academy is to help propel our personalized learning initiatives and establish the foundation for a seamless program that supports individualized instruction in our classrooms. Starting next school year (2017/2018), we will upgrading our program to a 1:1 Google Chromebook program. Cardinal Stritch Catholic High School and Academy wants to ensure that all of our students develop the skills and knowledge necessary to responsibly navigate this emerging modern world.

Every Middle and High School student will be issued a Chromebook, at no cost to the families, to create a learning environment that is consistent with advances in technology and facilitates resource sharing, critical thinking, innovation, research, creativity, communication, collaboration, increased productivity and mobile learning.

We are always evaluating our technology programs to make sure that we are providing the best tools for our students. Many products were evaluated including our current Apple iPad program. However, the integration with Google Apps for Education, stronger security and monitoring, the integrated keyboard, ease of maintenance, and cost were all factors in selecting the Chromebook. We feel that in order to foster 21st century skills in our students, we should follow the 4 C’s: critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity. The best way to do that is to utilize a device that has a keyboard in order to create content and collaborate more easily. Tablets (Apple iPads) are a great way for students to digest information but we have found that they are not as good for creating new content.

In preparation for the Chromebook 1:1 implementation, we have reviewed infrastructure and increased internet bandwidth at the school.

If you still have questions, please feel free to contact me via the methods below. I look forward to working with you and your student(s)!
