Here are a few basic questions you should ask yourself to help determine if I might be a good fit for you:
Are you seeking individual or couples work? Are you seeking telehealth (online video conferencing) or in-person sessions?
I offer both telehealth and in-person services. For the most part, I offer telehealth in the mornings and in-person in the afternoon. I like to keep a balance of individuals and couples so sometimes I might have room for a new individual client, but not a couple (or vice versa).
Where are you located?
I am in Montana but I am licensed to provide psychotherapy services to people in Montana, Utah and Washington.
Are you are willing to wait and see if I have room in my schedule? Or do you feel like you need an appointment NOW?
It may be a few weeks before I am able to work you into my schedule. I am happy to add you to my waitlist and contact you as soon as I can offer you a regular time slot.
Are you willing to commit to weekly appointments, at least for the first 3-4 sessions? Or do you prefer every other week or less frequent?
Meeting weekly, at least at first, is extremely important to me. You are going to have a much better experience if we can get to know each other and build some momentum right out of the gate. After establishing a working relationship and clarifying your goals for therapy, we can discuss reducing sessions to every other week if that is your preference. I do have a few monthly clients but only if they are well-established clients who are to the point of “maintenance” and their appointments are subject to my availability. I don't offer this option to new clients; I would rather make a regular commitment to work with you! Infrequent or irregular appointments do not provide a significant therapeutic benefit for most people.
Are you able to commit to the same day and time for appointments? Or does your schedule change often and you cannot commit to the same day and time for appointments?
Managing my schedule is always an unwelcomed challenge! Consistent appointment times reduces the frequency of missed appointments and makes my life MUCH easier. If this is impossible for you but you know your schedule several weeks in advance I can usually make that work.
Are you able to meet between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. (Mountain Time)?
Late afternoon appointments are often the most coveted time so I rarely have openings later than 4:00 p.m.
How do you plan to pay for services?
If you have insurance I definitely accept BlueCross/Blue Shield, Pacific Source, Allegiance, Mountain Co-op, and Aetna. Unfortunately I have had to begin to limit the number of clients with United, Optum, Cigna, Medicare and Medicaid. I also take self-pay. If your insurance plan is not listed, please ask. I typically do not accept EAP benefits (some exceptions made, please ask).
If the all of the above seems workable to you, please email me and tell me a little bit about yourself. Please let me know your preferences or restrictions on schedule, if you know them. I will get back to you within a couple business days. I will also give you an estimate of how long my waitlist might be. I look forward to hearing from you!
