The Principles of Real Estate I/II courses set the foundation for your Texas OnDemand licensing education. We have found that students who set a regular study schedule perform better than those who do not.
Our Principles of Real Estate I Correspondence Course with Video Review course utilizes the Modern Real Estate Practice in Texas textbook and Principles of Real Estate I workbook. Please have this textbook and workbook available as you work through the course.
Note: Errata information for Modern Real Estate Practice in Texas textbook can be located, here.
Begin with Texas Real Estate Principles I Correspondence Course with Video Review (located in your LMS), which contains the roadmap for completing your course in compliance with the Texas Real Estate Commission requirements.
Complete the reading assignments in your textbook as directed in your online video review course and use your Principles of Real Estate I workbook to follow along with the video review lectures. In some units, you may have additional reading to complete online.
Once you have completed the reading assignments in your textbook return to the Principles of Real Estate I course and complete any necessary quizzes, practice activities, and scenario exercises. You must also complete and pass each unit exam within the course.
You will know you have completed the course requirements when all components on your Dashboard page (under Required For Completion) have the green check-mark icon appearing and are no longer grayed out. If the check mark does not appear or any of the icons are gray in color, you have not completed the course.
Upon completion of all reading assignments, quizzes, scenario exercises, practice activities, and unit exams, you will be eligible to take your proctored final exam for completion of the course.
Important: Per TREC Regulations, you cannot register and complete a course on the same day. At least twice the number of credit hours for which the course is approved for must have elapsed since you registered for the course. In addition, Texas has a maximum study limit of no more than 12 hours per day.
Once all units have been completed in your Principles of Real Estate I course, the last step necessary to complete this course is to take and pass your Principles of Real Estate I proctored final exam.
There are TWO options for taking your proctored final exam for completion of the course.
You may arrange your own third party proctor to take your Kaplan online final exam.
Your proctor must be a disinterested third party with no financial or emotional interest in your passing the exam. Your supervisor, a subordinate, a coworker, a neighbor, or a family member may NOT serve as your exam proctor.
After your course has been completed, the Proctored Exam icon will become accessible on your course dashboard. When you click the Proctored Exam icon, a form will pop up. You and your chosen proctor must read this form and complete all required fields and submit the form electronically. At that time the exam will become accessible.
You must use a computer or a laptop (no phones or tablets) and a reliable internet connection (a hard-wired connection--rather than Wi-Fi-- is recommended to ensure the best possible connectivity).
You should use Google Chrome as your internet browser.
Test your connection prior to the event by visiting this link and following the on-screen instructions. If you have technical difficulties, please contact our Technical Support Team (800) 636-9517.
After passing the exam, both you and the proctor must read the affirmation statements and check the “I affirm” checkboxes to complete the exam attempt.
You then must go back to the Dashboard and click the “Affidavit” icon. You must accept your affidavit to ensure your course is considered complete and so we can process and release your completion certificate.
Note: If you do not provide 24-hour notice to cancel/reschedule, do not attend your session or if no unlocked test is available you will then be required to contact Customer Support to schedule your next proctoring session and pay a $25 fee to schedule.
Kaplan can proctor your online final exam virtually.
To schedule a Kaplan proctored exam, please visit the self-enrollment page upon completion of your course (including completion of your course online component) and register to take your proctored exam, here.
You must have a microphone, speakers, or a headset, and a video camera (webcam). The proctor must be able to see and hear you at all times (and vice versa).
You will be asked to scan your camera around your testing area so the proctor can confirm you do not have any available exam aids (open books, additional monitors, etc.).
You will be asked to share your screen so the proctor can confirm that you do not have any additional browser tabs open that might aid in your exam.
You must have a state-issued identification card (you will be asked to hold it up to your camera and show it to the proctor at the time of the exam so the proctor can confirm your identity.)
