Literacy Circle

Reading is Fun!!!

Literacy circle helps learners to develop early literacy skills. They also learn to follow rules and routines and practice self-regulation. These skills are all important to help young learners as they gear up for their next academic journey. Literacy circles gives learners the opportunity to talk about books with their peers. Through these conversations they build community, learn critical speaking and listening behaviours, deepen their understanding of books & recognize that reading is fun. K1 learners were divided into two groups- 'Character captains' &  'Sight word wizards'. The character  captains were encouraged to find out the characters from the book and reflect on the papers. The Sight word wizards were encouraged to find out the sight words and read aloud. Such practices help them explore books in a variety of ways and develop an eye for details while deepening their love for reading.

Math

I can count & make a bundle of ten

Counting makes learners understand that numbers have an order. In real life, they can relate numbers to quantities. Counting is used to demonstrate knowledge of the number system. Our K1 learners were encouraged to make a bundle of ice cream sticks using 10 sticks. This helped our learners to count the numbers in sequence and they also understood the concept of grouping the numbers together to form 'tens'.

Atelier

Its clay time!!!

Using clay helps learners to explore ideas creatively, improve physical dexterity and fine motor co-ordination. It also improves hand-eye coordination, encourages sensory development & stimulates the power of imagination. K1 Learners were encouraged to explore clay by squeezing, squashing and moulding to form various shapes. Learners  mixed multiple techniques and used different tools. By moulding and adding textures learners created their own unique monsters.
